[He’s slightly concerned with the relief that colors his cheeks as the stranger steps out of the dark. It hasn’t been long since he’s moved to 22 but he’s already doubting the state of his sanity. If he trusted Dante even slightly he might have considered bringing this up to him in their next session. Unfortunately for Bode and the good doctor, he didn’t.
He eyes the man beside him, the image at first blurry from lack of sleep before clearing up to a gentle face. Warm eyes, almond face, rounded nose and mouth, an autumn morning wrapped up in brown skin. Interesting, he doesn’t think he’s met this man before. A fresh transfer? Possibly.]
Me? Probably not. [Bode loosens a smile, his exhaustion tugging at his normally cold exterior. He looks back towards the chapel, physically and dramatically shivering at the sight of it.] This hellhole is terrifying when the sun’s in the sky. Although, now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t think I could go in even if I wanted to. [He glances at the stranger, his smile splitting into something ravenous.]
Can demons still go up in flames even if there isn’t a cross on the altar?
[[ Caleb wishes he could call Afra up — not for the first time, with inter-colony communication being so painfully slow — but now more with the intention of going, see? I’m not the only one out here being dramatic about this kind of shit.
This man’s words, his slightly unhinged smile, prompt a bark of a laugh out of Caleb, louder than he means it to be in the early morning stillness. ]] Yeah, I don’t think so. [[ His hands stay shoved deep in his pockets, peering up at the hulking shadow of a building. There’s an uneven sheen to one of the stained-glass windows in the moonlight. Broken, probably. If this colony was so hard-up for a dentist, Caleb doubts they have a stained glass artificer on hand.
Ultimately, he shakes his head, eyes staying trained on the chapel. ]] It’s just a building. [[ And maybe he’s trying to convince himself of those words as much as he is this stranger. ]] Much like the man himself— [[ Caleb juts his chin up towards the sky, an expanse of stars above them. ]]
It’s only got as much power as you give it. And I’ve seen some strange things since D-Day, but I don’t think bursting into flame on command is one of ‘em.
