Decided to just make one post with the other Twitter AU memes I’ve made so far.

Wasn't Suyin be justified in attempting assassinating Kuvira because the latter had forcefully took control over Zaofu? And before that she'd already colonized a good chunk of the Earth Kingdom? I don't like Suyin as a character, but those weren't the circumstances you can afford a "motherly" approach.

In isolation, that's a reasonable argument to make. Kuvira is an awful person and bad news, and killing her is a reasonable action. However, when we compare how Suyin treats Kuvira with how she treats Baatar Jr., things fall apart. Suyin generally holds her son blameless for everything and clearly wouldn't harm a hair on his head no matter what he does even though he's an evil, fascist dictator invading her home city, but she's all gung-ho about killing her "foster daughter" Kuvira. Not to mention that Suyin thinks that Kuvira's death will finish the whole "Earth Empire" business, when it's very, very clear it would solve nothing. It's all very odd.

Remember when I drew everyone as horses lolol??? I should bring that back tbh that was fun. I can't believe these are 3 years old (yeah i can sheesh) I kinda want to bring this AU back though, it was fun and evoked happiness for me ;; my silly horsies

One of the drawings I did for @kuvirazine ! I'm happy that I was part of the project, with other amazing artists. It was a great experience for me and I would definitely do it again.🙂

Other Powers

For Baatar Jr. Week (Day 6: Power) @baatarjrweek

When Tai was born, Toph had planted her feet in his general direction and declared him an earthbender, though his powers didn’t manifest until four years later. When Avani learned to crawl, she bore labyrinthine tunnels through the gardens and it took Kuvira’s seismic sense to find her in them, always caked in dirt and with moonflowers enmeshed in her hair. And when Priya’s peals of laughter split the air, his wife’s steel bracelets rattled like wind chimes, the metal singing in response to their infant daughter’s jubilation. 

When Baatar’s mother called them thrice blessed with prodigies, Kuvira’s face glowed with pride—while Baatar suppressed an eye roll—and when she fell pregnant again, the matriarch made no secret of her wish for a fourth earthbending grandchild. 

But Jae’s infancy came and went without any sign of a capacity for bending revealing itself. “Wait and see,” Kuvira had said, and “Give it time,” his mother advised, but years passed, and despite the family’s unceasing interventions, Jae was never able to make so much as a pebble move. 

“He’s at it again,” Baatar said as he glanced out a window, watching his six-year-old son run through a sequence of earthbending stances his older sisters had drilled into him. 

Kuvira drifted to his side and gazed out at the training field. “His form is flawless,” she said, shaking her head slightly. Baatar tried not to chafe at the hint of regret in her voice. “Maybe we can find him a master in the nonbending martial arts.”

“I don’t know if that helps.” Baatar sighed. “He doesn’t want to fight; he wants to earthbend. Anything short of that just winds up disappointing. Trust me, I would know.” 

“Maybe you’re right,” Kuvira said. “I’ll try talking to him again.” 

Baatar rested a hand on her shoulder, stopping her. “Let me go this time.”

She nodded and he slipped out the back door to make his way to the training field. He watched his son go through the stances again, his face set in hard determination—much like Kuvira’s when she was focused on a task— before intervening. 

“Jae, would you like to come up to the workshop with me?” he asked. “I’ve been working on some new designs, and I could use your help.” 

“Maybe later, dad,” he said. “I need to keep working on these moves so I’m ready when my earthbending comes in.”

Baatar took a deep breath, preparing himself to give a variation of the talk his father once had with him. To be a Beifong born without the power of earthbending felt in many ways like being a bird without a song. That had been Baatar’s reality for years, decades, before he came to terms with his own skills and limitations. But it would not be his son’s if he had any say in the matter. 

“It’s true, you could develop earthbending in a few months or a few years.” He took a seat on a pile of earth discs. “But you could also be a nonbender, like me.”

“But probably not, though, right? Tai and Avani and Priya can all earthbend, so why would I be the only one who can’t?” 

Baatar forced himself not to look away from the pleading look in his son’s green eyes. “No one can really say why some people have bending abilities and others don’t. There are geneticists who’ve dedicated their entire careers to the question.” 

“Dad, what’s a geneticist?” 

“A scientist who studies heredity and the variation of organisms and…and that isn’t really important now,” he said. “The point is, bender or nonbender, your mother and I love you and will always be proud of you.” 

“Does being a nonbender mean I’ll have to become an engineer?”

“Of course not,” Baatar said, “but I’m here if you ever want to learn.” 

Jae seemed to think this over for a moment. “Can we design a super fast car?” 

Baatar smiled. “The fastest.” 

“Really? Then let’s go!”

As he jogged to match his son’s pace back to the house, up to his workshop, he hoped the powers he could offer—of innovation and design—would be enough to fill an earth-shaped void.

Otter Penguin

SUMMARY: Baby Baatar Jr. loves his toy otter penguin

Baatar Sr. and his wife, Su, were enjoying some time with their 12-month-old son after lunch when there was suddenly a knock on the door.

"Oh, were we expecting anyone?" Su asked, looking at her husband in confusion.

"Not that I know of," Baatar Sr. responded, feeling as confused as Su looked.

Baatar Sr. opened the door to find his father, who he hadn't been expecting for a few more weeks.

"Dad?" Baatar Sr. exclaimed in shock, immediately pulling his father in for a hug. "What are you doing here? I thought you had chief stuff to do."

"I got off early," Sokka explained with a smile, as Baatar Sr. ushered him into the living room. "How are my beautiful daughter-in-law and handsome grandson?"

"We're doing well, Uncle Sokka," Su said, hugging her father-in-law. "Junior, say hi to Grandpa."

"Hi, Gwampa," Baatar Jr. greeted adorably.

"Hi, little otter penguin," Sokka said, picking his grandson up and snuggling him close before turning to Baatar Sr. and Su. "Isn't he a tiny bit young to be speaking this well?"

"Probably," Su chuckled.

"You're a little smartie-pants, aren't you, Junior?" Sokka jokingly asked his grandson.

"Junior smart pants," Baatar Jr. repeated with a nod.

"Junior go down now pweeze?" the small child asked his grandfather after a few moments.

"Sure, buddy," Sokka chuckled, placing his grandson down onto the floor. Baatar Jr. took a couple of shaky steps before falling down and ultimately deciding to crawl instead.

"He can speak in sentences, but walking's still a bit of a challenge," Su chuckled.

"No, no, no. Not in your mouth, Jun," Baatar Sr. said, hurrying over to his son who was attempting to put a slipper in his mouth. "Here," he placed a new set of stacking rings in front of the small boy. "Let's play with this instead."

"Pay this instead," Baatar Jr. repeated, looking at the toy in excitement, dragging his favorite otter penguin stuffed animal with him.

Baatar Sr. laughed. “He’s had that toy for four months and I’ve already had to stitch it back together twice,” he said. “He takes it with him everywhere .”

“I tried to throw it away after it broke the second time,” Su stated. “But he was so miserable when he couldn’t find it that I had to give it back.”

“Why not get him a new replacement one?” Sokka asked.

“Oh, we tried,” Baatar Sr. said. “He knows the difference.”

“Watch this,” Su said, picking up a new otter penguin identical to the one Baatar Jr. had in his hands except for the stains and tears and approaching her son who was sitting next to his otter penguin stuffed animal and playing with the stacking rings. “Hi, Junior. Can Mommy see your otter penguin for a second.”

Baatar Jr. reluctantly handed the toy to his mother.

“Junior’s turn now pweeze? Junior’s turn now pweeze?” the child asked desperately the moment his mother took the toy from him. 

“Here you go, sweetie,” Su said, discreetly switching the two toys and handing Baatar Jr. the new one.

Baatar Jr. quickly took the toy and cuddled it close for a moment before suddenly throwing the toy and bursting into tears.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Su cooed, attempting to hand the new toy back to her son.

“No! No! Want otto penwin!” Baatar Jr. scream-cried.

“This is otter penguin, sweetie,” Su said gently.

“No! Not otto penwin! Want otto penwin!” Baatar Jr. continued crying.

“Here you go, buddy,” Baatar Sr. said, handing Baatar Jr. his old otter penguin toy. “You know which one is yours, don’t you?”

Baatar Jr. made desperate grabby hands at the toy. “Otto penwin! Otto penwin!” He immediately cuddled his toy close as though he hadn’t seen it in months.

“Told ya,” Su said to Sokka with a smirk.

“Well, he is a smart kid,” Sokka chuckled. "Someone had to inherit my genius."
