How the F Do I get into Babbo? Part II
I did it, I FINALLY ate at Babbo, Mario Batali’s amazing Italian eatery and it was FANTASTIC. Since it opened in June 1998, it has been booked solid. To get in, my plus one made our reservation a month in advance, but I found out yesterday that we didn’t have to wait that long. To dine at Babbo (which is worth the splurge), there are three ways to secure a reservation. Unless of course, you’re a celebrity/sleeping with the chef/typically greet maître d’s with benjamins.
Reservation. This is how I got to eat at his glorious place. Here’s the catch, you need to make your reservation one month in advance, but they only take reservations one month out (net net, you have to call one month out to the day you plan to dine). The phone line opens at 10 AM, but it’s usually busy. A resi is a pain in the tush, but certainly worth it. The reservation line is: 212.777.0303.
Walk-in. Walk-ins start at 4:30 PM. There are six tables and ten bar seats in their “Enoteca” (AKA the front of the restaurant), which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Again, go early if you want in and be patient. Side note: they have a phenomenal bar and wine list so you can occupy your time.
Twitter. AKA the loophole to wining and dining at one of the city’s best. Every day, Babbo lists all cancelled reservations (many of the choice times) on their twitterfeed @BabboRistorante
Address: Babbo (110 Waverly Place, Greenwich Village)
