sun out (singular) gun out
:^) tfw you take your mandalorian war veteran to their camp
Tiniat waved Bao-Dur off to the side of the camp’s central clearing. “Do we need anything for the ship? Anything we don’t have?”
The zabrak shrugged. “The repairs are all minimal, really. I already picked up spares on Nar Shadaa.”
Tiniat nodded, dug in her pocket, and handed him a small stack of credits. “Still, go through their ‘shop.’ Buy at least a hundred credits worth of their supplies. If there’s nothing we need for the ship, it never hurts to have some rations or extra charge packs on hand.”
Bao-Dur’s eyes narrowed. “You want me to make nice with them?”
Tiniat shrugged. “You don’t have to butter them up, just establish that we’re willing to spend our credits. We might not be allies, but we aren’t their enemies.”
Bao-Dur’s glove creaked around the handful of credits. Tiniat’s eyes flickered to his fist, and he immediately loosened it and put the credits away in one of his pouches. She stepped in closer and put a hand on his arm. Her voice dropped to a murmur.
“We’re not here to fight them.”
Bao-Dur snorted. He knew that.
“And they’re not here to fight us.”
Now that, he wasn’t so sure of.
“They’re not. At least not today.” Her deep, brown eyes searched his copper ones. “Can you believe that? At least as long as we’re here?”
His cousin had taken her new wife and their children and started a new life on a colony world. His family had never been able to bury them. They didn’t even know what happened to them, except that they’d never heard from them after the fighting began. If the galaxy was merciful, perhaps they’d died in the initial bombardment- but the galaxy rarely was, and the Mandalorians often preserved civilian populations where possible. Bao-Dur still took a second look at any Zabrak with slave tattoos.
Their oldest had been six years old-
“Bao-Dur.”
Bao-Dur shook himself out of it.
“I can’t,” he said. “I don’t- I can’t. But I won’t start any fights.”
Bao-Dur hadn’t realized how tense Tiniat had been until her shoulders began to drop. "That’s all I’m asking.“
He took a step back and flashed her a tight smile before turning away.
He wouldn’t pick any fights.
At least, not without backup.
*dreamy sigh*
“Bao-Dur spoke quietly, but rarely could his voice be called soft.”
