Here comes the Rain again
A quick drabble of a thought I had this morning. ------------------ • He almost didn't hear the doorbell over the crashing thunder, but whoever it was rang it over and over. Jason was finally alone and had been looking forward to a case of beer and the manor to himself. When it became clear whoever it was wasn't leaving he got up from the couch and padded over to the door, pissed. He unlocked it with haste and opened it. There was so many things running through his head and so many things he wanted to say but when he saw her standing there, drenched, child in arms he drew a complete blank. Talia Al Ghul. Bruce's former flame and Jason guessed from the tiny looking Bruce in her arms, mother to his child. "Jason,", she said breathless, "I don't have time to explain.", she kicked a bag at his feet and shifted the child, "But you have to take him. I don't know when I'll be back but it's not safe for him anymore." Jason was gawking at the boy. He couldn't have been older than three at the most. He had his mothers eyes and skin but Bruce's everything else. "Jason, please.", she pleaded. He just nodded wordlessly. "Habibi,", she turned to the baby, "Mama has to go, but you will stay with your father." The child shook his head and clenched a tiny fistful of his mothers shawl. She kissed his head softly before handing him to Jason. The second she pulled him off her he began to wail loudly. "Talia.", Jason took him carefully, "What's going on?", he finally found words. "It's safer if you don't know. Safer for him.", she drew her shawl over her shoulders from where the child pulled, "His name is Damian. And Jason,", she looked at him directly, tears welling in her eyes, "If there's anything they say about me, tell them I loved my son. More than all the harsh words they say, I loved my son." Before Jason could say anything more she took off into the rain and he was left in the doorway with the screaming child.
