“For the love of God, Montresor!”
You've heard of Jurassic Park; now get ready for JURASSIC GALAXY
So BabyTea is really into his Baby's Big World Astronomy book right now, and can name all the planets as represented in the book, inform you that Uranus spins on its side, and that Venus is covered in clouds. He knows that Jupiter has a great red spot, that Earth is the only planet with oceans, and that Olympus Mons is bigger than TWO Mt. Everests. He also recognizes a galaxy on sight and seems to understand that we are but a tiny dot within a tiny dot within a tiny dot in that galaxy.
He also believes the galaxy is full of dinosaurs.
The dinosaurs, he knows, are not here on Earth. He has looked! No dinosaurs except pretend ones! Some very nice statues, lots of tiny toy dinosaurs, books about dinosaurs. But clearly dinosaurs are REAL, because there is consistency in representation! They show up all over the place, just like birds and poop! Birds and poop are definitely real. Therefore, dinosaurs are real. But not here. Dinosaurs are real in the REST of the Milky Way, and quite possibly in the Andromeda galaxy as well (which we have looked at pictures of). I have no idea what he thinks lives in the Horsehead Nebula, but I am eager to find out.
One of my grandmothers loves to decorate gourds. In her bathroom, she has a gourd painted as a garden gnome, clutching a bouquet of tiny roses. BabyTea, surveying this with mystification, eventually declared,
"Actually a squash."
Reasons my toddler is crying: "The car doesn't fit in the dump truck!"
Here is BabyTea’s soup recipe from yesterday, with the changes we made. It cooked up quickly and was easy - we used the frozen shiitakes I buy in bulk from the Asian grocery, plus some dried porcini mushrooms I had in the pantry. I think any combination of mushrooms would be delicious.
If you want lots of broth, keep half a cup of barley, but I like a thicker soup. Also easier to feed babies.
We looked at the poison dart frog display at the museum today and learned the word habitat and what one might find in one, so after BabyTea’s nap today, we made one for his little plastic frogs
He has emptied the ponds and is filling them with rocks. Such is life.
BabyTea is well over two now, and he needs a new name!
Should he henceforth be referred to as...
Teaschooler
Chai-ld
I really like Teaschooler but it will of course need to be changed again in three years, whereas Chai-ld will last another eight or so. On the other hand, Teaschooler is easier to understand as a pun, perhaps?
Vote! Solve this dilemma!
Toddler enjoyed naked time on the deck today. Hello world, it’s turtle pool weather!
I wish I could show you him joyfully watering my plants out of his pool with a leaky stacking cup but. Too much butt.
