Today’s #eatdontbepreylove safari theme was BABIES!!! 1. We were the only people around to see this newborn zebra take its first wobbly steps! You can even see the mom’s placenta against her leg. 2. This mom and baby elephants disappeared moments after we saw them. 3. Gotta love these cuddly water bucks. 4. We also caught this wildebeest moments after it was born! (We’ll post the video soon.) 5. We had the pleasure of having a new baby zebra named Firecracker born in the park on the 4th of July! The burning question that everyone asks is what gender is the new zebra foal. The answer is!!!!!!!!! We don’t know lol and there’s a reason why! When a baby zebra is born there is a nursing and bonding period that the new foal shares with its parents. During this period as long as the foal is healthy there’s a hands off approach the the newborn. It’ll take a little bit yet to let that process develop naturally. Once they’re comfortable and baby is cruising along good we will give the foal the full evaluation and report his/her gender to you. In the meantime what do you guys think, is it a boy or a girl?
