March 22, 2011:
Greek Salad - w/ Homemade House Italian
½ Goat Cheese Pizza – Marinated Roma & Sun-dried Tomatoes, Grilled Chicken, Fresh Garlic, Spinach & Goat Cheese ½ Ricotta Cheese Pizza – Fresh Tomatoes, Spinach, Fresh Basil, Fresh Garlic, and Ricotta Cheese
Lobster Ravioli – w/ Brandy Cream Sauce
The level of customer service was excellent. There was no waiter per se, but the chef behind the counter was very friendly and open to answer any question or offer a suggestion. In fact, I carried a conversation with him while waiting for the rest of my party to show up and give a quick history of his time in Addison, how the food is prepared, and what was popular to eat. The place is family owned and family run, so environment felt more personalized. Greek Salad – To me, most salads taste the same given the basic ingredients of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and banana peppers. What usually sets a salad aside is the dressing, which is definitely the case here. Bacci’s uses a House Italian dressing that added a burst of flavor the every bite. I might have requested more, but I did not want to fill up on salad. Rating: * * * * ½ Goat Cheese Pizza – Perhaps one the best pizza’s I’ve had in a long time and probably among the healthier. There was no excess grease or overpowering salt. The crust was thin, the toppings were fresh, and the sun-dried tomatoes were delicious. When added to the pizza, the chef did not re-hydrate them before cooking. Instead, he added them dry and allowed the juices from the baking process to be absorbed into the tomatoes. It turned out very good and worked well with the goat cheese. My only suggestion would be to have a thicker crust option. Rating: * * * * * Ricotta Cheese Pizza – In my opinion, the ricotta cheese pizza was delicious, but not as good as the goat cheese. I think what lost points for me were the fresh tomatoes. The moisture from the tomatoes flowed into the crust, which gave it a soggy texture. Not exactly what I want in a pizza. And since it was thin crust, there was no real way to compensate for it. The ingredients were fine in term of flavor, but texture can be a big part of the meal. Rating: * * * * Lobster Ravioli – I’m generally wary of ravioli dishes because I’m never really sure how much I will be getting. I’d hate to pay too much on a meal that provides little portions. The dish had about 4 or 5 raviolis, but they were large in size. The dish itself was deceptively deep, which was great because it held more of the sauce than I expected. The brandy cream sauce was absolutely wonderful. After I was done with the ravioli, I was literally trying to find things to dip into the sauce. I don’t think it was healthy, but it was definitely delicious. I would have loved to have a bottle/jar of it to take home and experiment with other foods. Certainly it was the most enjoyable part of the meal. Rating: * * * * *
