Well I just finished my last AS level which was unit 2 chemistry. I feel like crying as I worked so hard and did loads of past papers which I did well in but just completely fucked up. I want to medicine which means I have to get an A in this subject and do it in A2. It just sucks when u revise loads and just fail to get what u earnt :(.
Hi there! I’m so sorry to hear that you feel that way, we’ve all come out of an exam at some point or another and felt that it went terribly so I know this is a tough time for you. I’ll do the best I can to give you some advice:
Luckily, Unit 2 chemistry was your last exam so you don’t have anymore to focus on - use the time you have to relax with a long bath or a good book - it’s been a tough few months with exams you need to recuperate.
Now that your mind is cleared we can move on! If you did well in past papers, you probably did better in your exam than you think - lots of people are very self-critical about their exam performance, tending to focus on the questions that went badly and losing sight of the ones that went well.
If you found the exam tough, chances are that loads of other people did too, so as a result, grade boundaries might be lower than usual.
No-one knows what grade you got until results day in August, and now that the exam’s over, you can’t go back and change it - although this is easier said than done, there’s no point worrying now.
If, in the worst case scenario, you didn’t do as well as you’d hoped, there are always other options going forward. You might be able to resit the unit next year, or even resit Year 12 if it’s necessary. This is not in any way a bad thing. Looking over the exam and really figuring out what went wrong this year will go a long way towards doing better next year, if it comes to that. Even if you don’t resit, adjusting your revision technique next year could still help you get an A overall.
As I’m not doing medicine at university, I don’t know enough about the applications process at all so I’d suggest that you talk to quilavastudy who’s currently a med student and will definitely offer better advice than me!
Lastly, please, please don’t be too hard on yourself about this because it’s clear to see that you worked your hardest for this exam and really, trying your best is all that matters. You did that best you could and that is so important to remember. Life isn’t all about grades and one missed A grade doesn’t shut all doors to your future. Although right now it’s hard to remember that, please try and keep it in mind.
I hope my rambling was helpful anon, thanks for asking! Good luck in the future and please do talk to me whenever you need x
