what was supposed to be a zachary bolduc fanfiction ending in a full on hockey romance about noah langford and elisabeth sinclair.
A little disclaimer before you read: this story originally started as a Zachary Bolduc fanfiction, but it slowly evolved into a completely original hockey romance featuring Noah Langford and Elisabeth Sinclair.
Noah Langford is a fictional character created entirely from my imagination. While the story is inspired by the world of hockey, the characters, relationships, and events are my own creation.
I decided to share a little snippet from the book I’m currently writing. I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into Liz and Noah’s story💙
A knock on the door snapped me out of my mental misery.
I made my way to the entrance, hating more and more every corner of this house as time went by. Was this really how I would live the rest of my life?
I opened the door, expecting to hear my husband's voice because he had forgotten something. I kept my eyes on the floor, ready to brace myself in case he raised his voice.
Instead, my breath caught in my throat.
Because the duffle bag on the floor had a logo I knew too damn well.
A little MTL PNX and the number 76.
"Noah?" My voice was barely a whisper.
"Hi, princess."
I followed the sound of his voice, slowly taking in his shoes, his tall legs, the dark blue sweater, and his few-days-old beard.
And there he stood.
Six feet tall, with those broad shoulders I remembered all too well.
It might have been a few years since I’d seen him in person, but he hadn’t changed one bit.
His hair was still slightly messy, with that rebellious strand falling onto his forehead.
And those pretty blue eyes.
The ones I always wished I could get lost in for the rest of my life.
We both stood there, staring at each other.
But his smile faded as he realized how sad I looked.
And in that moment, he understood why I had disappeared.

I was furious to say the least, but it was justified, for real, this time. (Y/N), my lover of nearly six centuries, had betrayed me. So, there I stood in my living room, while she stood on the other side of the room, not able to look me in the eye. We both knew she was guilty, I just needed her to admit it.
“You spoke with Damon and Stefan Salvatore,” I started in a low voice, trying to keep my anger contained. I knew better than to snap at her, I’d known since the moment I turned her into a vampire.
Before she was a vampire, she was a wealthy man’s wife in England. She’d been married off to him by her father when she was seventeen years old, no say in her own fate. Her former husband verbally and physically abused her, it had been centuries since those days when she was trapped in that scenario, and it had been years since her last spiral. But I still knew better, one wrong move and she’d have a freak out.
She nodded once, in guilty confirmation, rubbing at her arms. Pulling at her sleeves a bit. “And they asked you to give them information on me, my history, in order to stop me from hurting Elena Gilbert.” She lowered her head some more, nodding again. “And you told them how to kill me.”
“No, Klaus,” she objected, “I did not tell them how to kill you. I don’t know how they knew, I don’t, but I didn’t tell them.” She shook her head, looking me in the eye now, “Maybe Elijah-”
“Do not speak his name,” I growled, my lungs seemingly compressing out all oxygen with the effort to contain my unadulterated rage. “This is about you. You betrayed me.”
“No, I didn’t,” she insisted, “I swear, Klaus, I didn’t tell them anything. They asked me to give them information, but I didn’t tell them anything. I would never-”
“Don’t,” I snapped quietly, “you would. You would, I thought I could trust you, but it turns out I can’t.” I clenched my fists at my sides, wanting to punch a wall, or throw something.
She glanced down at my fists, tears gathered in her eyes. “Klaus, I love you-”
“Do you?” I questioned, “After this stunt you pulled, plotting to kill me with my enemies when you know my reasons for wanting to break the curse my mother put on me, I’m not even sure if I love you anymore.” I heard her breath catch in her throat quietly, I saw her lips wobbling slightly as tears started to pour from her eyes.
She shook her head, “no. You don’t get to do that.” Her voice was no longer desperate for me to believe her. “You want to know my thought process when they asked me for help? Fine.” She took a breath, “in 1492, you found another Petrova doppelganger, Katherine Pierce.” I sensed where she was going with that. A shred of guilt I carried for centuries. “You needed the doppelganger, a werewolf, and a vampire for the ritual to break your curse. Imagine my surprise all those years ago when I learned that the only reason you saved me and turned me was to sacrifice me.” I felt my heart ache at the sight of her tears, at the fact that she’d known what I had planned to do. “You claimed to love me then, too.”
“I did,” I raised my voice.
“Obviously not,” she argued, “my thought process after they asked for my help went as follows. Klaus was willing to sacrifice me once, when he claimed to love me more than anything, Klaus saved me only to kill me in a ritual for himself. My thought process was that if you were willing to kill me then that you would be willing to do it now.” I internally winced, her face was wet with tears, red splotches on her cheeks, around her eyes, the tip of her nose red. She really thought that low of me… “Despite the possibility that you might do so, I chose to believe that you wouldn’t. I put my trust in you, Nik. I didn’t tell them a single damn thing, because I love you. But I guess you don’t.”
“Love….” I softened my voice, trying to put out the anger raging like a fire in my gut.
“I hope you’re happy, Niklaus,” (Y/N) took another step back away from me, towards the door, holding her arms out at her sides. “You got everything you wanted, your curse is broken, you can make your little hybrid family, and you won’t have to deal with me anymore.” She turned around and made her way towards the door, wiping at her eyes.
I pursed my lips, I sped in front of her, flashing my new hybrid eyes at her unintentionally. “Don’t turn your back on me!” I watched her jump and take several steps back, I stepped towards her, realizing my mistake quickly. I tried to console her but she fell to the ground, tears flowing down her face as she crawled back away from me. I stood frozen in my spot a few feet away from her, I watched her curl into herself, wrapping her arms around her knees, sobbing violently. It was then that I realized my eyes hadn’t gone back to normal, I blinked and they were gone.
She thought I was going to hurt her. Elijah hurried into the room from where he’d just entered the house, he saw her crumbled up on the ground and walked toward her. He leaned over her, touching her arms softly and whispering a few things to her, she nodded in response to whatever he said. I watched him pick her up off the ground, he pushed her face into his shoulder so she wouldn’t have to see me. He gave me a warning glance to stay away from her for the moment, I knew what it meant. I’d only make it worse if I followed.
It was a few hours, I stayed in the living room listening to her sobs from Rebekah’s old room, listening to Elijah trying to calm her down. I knew the moment she fell asleep, still crying but giving into the exhaustion that overtook her. Elijah came downstairs soon after, a glare in his eyes.
“She didn’t betray you, Niklaus,” Elijah told me. “I did. You know I did, I had my hand in your chest, clasped around your heart. Do you want to know where she was during all of this?” I wasn’t sure I did, I knew it would only make me feel more guilty. “She had her neck snapped by Damon Salvatore when he found out she was on her way to stop me from executing the plan to kill you.” Elijah placed his hands in his front pockets, “so, what did you do to make her so afraid that she wouldn’t let you within ten feet of her? Why would she think you would ever hurt her? The man she loves.”
I was silent for a long moment, making myself feel the guilt of my words. My untrue words. “I told her….when she told me she loved me, I told her that I wasn’t sure I still loved her after she conspired to kill me.”
Elijah looked almost horrified at my words. “You love that woman more than anything, even yourself and your own goals. So why would you make her believe such a thing?”
“I was angry!” I shouted.
“You’re always angry,” Elijah snapped, “it is things like this that made me believe it would be better to simply kill you. (Y/N) has stuck by you through all of your antics, even when she knew that all those centuries ago you planned to kill her. You planned to kill her, falsely telling her that you loved her.” Elijah shook his head, “you may have grown to love her but she has always had to wonder if you were telling the truth whenever you said those three words to her. Or if you were just going to get rid of her when it was most convenient for you.”
“That was not my intent, brother,” I lowered my voice.
“Perhaps not,” he said, “but I still had to listen to her cry whenever you were away, saying you loved her before you left, and I had to listen to her ask me if you really did love her. I had to tell her that I couldn’t answer that question with certainty.”
I lowered my head, hating the overwhelming feeling of remorse in my stomach. She’d been hurting for so long because of me, and I hadn’t even known. She hadn’t felt safe enough around me to ask me directly.
I heard the sounds of her sniffling again, I looked at Elijah, as if I needed permission, he nodded. I walked up the stairs quietly, I knocked softly on the bedroom door, my only response was another quiet sniffle, a whimper escaping her, she’d woken up and was crying again.
I opened the door, pushing it open slowly. I walked in, shutting the door behind me. I sat down on the end of the bed, a good distance away from her thanks to Rebekah’s need for a gigantic bed.
I waited a moment, trying to find the words. (Y/N) was clutching a pillow to her chest, burying her face in it so I wouldn’t see her at that moment. “If you want me to leave, I will,” I spoke softly, so as to not startle her. She said nothing, “do you want me to stay?” Nothing. So I took that as a yes.
I sighed, leaning back on my hands. “I didn’t mean what I said, love. I’m sorry, I should have believed you. And as for sacrificing you-” she let out a louder puff of air in an attempt to conceal her sob, I waited for her to calm down a bit. “Yes, I did plan to sacrifice you, I planned it until after Katerina turned into a vampire.” I took a breath, I wasn’t the best at confessing my feelings, but for her, I always tried. “I know that you have no reason to trust me, you didn’t then, and after I wasn’t willing to give you the trust you deserve, I don’t blame you if you don’t trust me now.”
She sniffled and tucked the pillow closer to her chest. “You were my savior, Nik,” she whispered, “I wanted to believe that you had some good left in you, that you were human enough to love me, but at some point, it became clear to me that you really were planning to kill me.” She gulped audibly, “you saved me from a man who tortured me, and tricked me into thinking you loved me while planning to torture me some more by making me sit in a ring of fire, waiting for you to kill me when I believed that you would never do anything to hurt me. Because you saved me.” She wiped at her eyes until her face was entirely dry, like she was telling herself she wasn’t going to cry anymore.
“I do love you, (Y/N),” I told her with unyielding certainty. “I love you more than I love anything, even myself. Darling, I loved you even when I thought you betrayed me. It kills me whenever I see you cry, or whenever I see you so afraid that you collapse and won’t get up. It killed me inside even more knowing that I was the cause. That for countless centuries this has been happening to you, that I have been causing you pain this entire time. It pains me that I put you in a position where you questioned my love every time I told you I loved you.”
“I know,” she whispered, so quietly it was barely there, but I could hear the pain in her voice still. My self hatred only grew more with every passing second. “I don’t know how to fix this, because you clearly don’t trust me anymore.” I tested the waters and scooted up the bed until my back hit the headboard. I didn’t make any moves to touch her, I stayed about a half foot away from her. “I want to make this work, Nik, but you need to want this as much as I do.”
“I do, sweetheart,” I whispered. “I truly do. I have a lot to work on, I know that, and you have been so patient with me, I just need…. I need more time. I need you to be patient a little while longer. If you can’t anymore, I understand-” I wasn’t looking at her until I felt her head fall onto my lap and her arms wrap around my torso, not without hesitation. I tensed for a moment before relaxing when I realized what she was doing.
She was trying.
I tentatively ran my fingers through (Y/N)’s hair, I heard her breathing steady as her sinuses cleared up, just before she fell asleep again, I whispered something to her with a kiss on her temple. “I will never hurt you again, I promise you that.” I paused, “I will do right by you.”
