Last Week's Films
Some brief comments on the movies that came out last week:
Gravity - Alfonso Cuaron's excellent effort at making a space film. Two huge stars and unbelievable cinematography (not to mention a mysterious plot that the trailers thankfully didn't attempt to give away) will probably land this movie in the top three at the box office (but only for opening weekend). Oscar nomination: most likely. I will probably see this in 2-D since it was converted to 3-D in post. Big screen should be enough. Definitely will see.
Runner Runner - Why movies like this still get made is beyond me. Ben Affleck as a villain is the only aspect that will be worth the slow agony of the predictable plot twists. A good idea for JT to get back into film after a brief absence but the writing makes his acting noticeable and forced. Will not even rent.
Besharam - I have a very large place in my heart reserved for Bollywood, and this one I would consider. Usually, I would need one of three RWBTs (Requirements for Watching Bollywood in Theaters) to be met. 1. Shah Rukh Kahn 2.Aamir Khan 3. Amitabh Bachchan. Even though none are met here but this Ranbir Kapoor seems to be taking the industry by storm - it would be worth to see what the fuss is about. Also - even though it is no Yash Raj film, it does take place in India so that's a huge plus. May see it if it's playing nearby.
A.C.O.D. - No and don't waste your time.
Parkland - I will wait for the DVD. What happens at the Parkland hospital the day of JFK's assassination. Unlikely to get nominated for anything in Oscar-land, but maybe a Golden Globe.
Bad Milo! - For those not afraid of intelligent comedy and really twisted horror. I would definitely see it. Briefly - about a guy who has strange stomach pains. Finds out that they are caused by a demon (or alien, I don't know yet).
