Very lovely couple Jaida and Paul got married in October 2018 at one of our favourite spots for Yarra Valley Weddings, beautiful Ballara Receptions. They tied the knot in the Chapel, and Jaida was able to time her arrival absolutely perfectly. As I write this post, there’s heavy rain falling just outside my window – just as it was literally minutes before Jaida arrived at Ballara, and literally minutes after she entered the chapel!

With Celebrant Erin Rollason conductin a warm and very personal ceremony, it was then outside (and inside to shelter) for some photos before celebrating all the way to midnight.

Congratulations again Jaida and Paul – hope you love these! 🙂

… and yet bright sunshine as our stunning bride pulls in to the driveway!

A very touching moment when a special, lifelong friend gives you some kind words and thoughts for the future …

Well done everyone – we all got the timing just right on this one!

If you’re chased inside by the usual Melbourne Spring weather, there are a lot words places to be than this cosy chapel.

Gotta love Yarra Valley Weddings for all those green spots and spaces …

Raw emotion just got the better of Dad, and I don’t think there were a lot of dry eyes in the house …

… but we all get by with a little help from our friends (and wives and daughters;) )

A mix of Italian traditional dancing and some old-fashioned Oz Rock towards the end of the night meant the dancefloor was packed …

… until the happy couple said goodbye night and disappeared into the night 🙂

Kylie and Colin tied the knot at Ballara with friends and family looking on in once of our beautiful wintry Yarra Valley Weddings. Although the rain did come and go through the day, it stayed away at the right times for this kind and happy couple to get some of the outdoor shots that I know Kylie really wanted!

    Kylie and Colin – Yarra Valley Weddings

While the girls were not far away, the guys were busy getting ready at a friend’s home in Mernda.

Colin and the guys stayed pretty chilled through the day, although I think the nerves had kicked in by the time Kylie started her walk down the aisle 🙂

With Kylie and the girls getting ready at home, it was great that they’d found a good spot to hang that beautiful dress, with plenty of room for the 5 bridesmaids to get ready!

Found this shot through a cloud of purple balloons – did I mention that this was a purple themed wedding?

Beautiful bride Kylie with the light coming softly through the window.

I couldn’t resist using this mirror in the bedroom. The light streaming in through the window lit Kylie beautifully.

Yep, I think the nerves really had started to work on Coling by this stage! Always a great moment to catch the groom as he sees his bride for the first time – just that this groom was very serious!

I loved this moment as Kylie’s daughters helped each other out with a couple of tears shed as Mum walked down the aisle.

Kylie and Colin and the girls showed their commitment, and mixing their lives together, with a sand ceremony. Personally I loved the simple choice of colours as well 🙂

Kylie had really, really wanted to get out to get some shots at the swing at Ballara – so much so that I think even if it was still pouring rain she would have got us all out there!

As it happened, the rain stopped and we were able to use the beautiful gardens as a backdrop.

Lights on as the sunlight begins to fade, with the reflections adding to this cute moment as Kylie and Colin shared a little joke. Gotta love Yarra Valley Weddings.

Couldn’t go without some shots of the beautiful Bentley parked outside Ballara, showing herself off in the fading light.

I’ve got lots more shots from this first dance – it was hard to narrow them down to just a few, but I think this is one of my favourites. So genuine and they really were lost in the moment together.

The Shoe Game. Always a great bit of fun and gets everyone to enjoy plenty of laughter. Although in this case it did seem that Colin copped a lot of the attention!

I absolutely love the night shots at Ballara, being able to steal this lovely couple for a few minutes knowing that they really wanted to grab some of these special lit-at-night moments.

And as the party came to an end, it was off into the night.

On the last Saturday in March, we photographed the stunning garden wedding of Hannah and Tom at Ballara Receptions – one of the amazing Yarra Valley wedding venues close to Melbourne.

Hannah and Tom both got ready surrounded by close friends and family in their very thoughtful and helpful bridal parties, and then headed on to Ballara for both the ceremony and reception.

The ceremony by lovely celebrant Lisa Graham was very touching, with sweet and personal vows that definitely connected with lots of the guests, including myself!

Then it was time for a photo shoot, before I left Hannah and Tom in the bridal suite to go and capture the details of the reception inside. Introductions were followed by an AMAZING first dance, then a rocking reception that had everyone partying right through until the clock struck midnight.

Thanks again Hannah and Tom, and a massive congratulations! Hope you had an amazing day and enjoy this sneak peek 🙂

Ballara Receptions – Yarra Valley Wedding Venues

I thought this Lion Rampant might have been another Welsh connection, but turns out it’s more of an Aston Villa logo :p

This is one of my favourite shots from the boys’ prep – something about the light and Tom’s hand adjusting the tie just really seemed to work.

You really to have to make the most of a beautiful wedding gown like this one …

Loved those rose petals! Well done guests on getting some of them out in front of Hannah and Tom for me 🙂

The beautiful soft light on the last day of daylight savings lit the gazebo beautifully as we were wrapping up the photos for the afternoon.

One of the most amazing (and athletic!) first dances I think I’ve seen a bridal couple attempt, and wow did you do a great job …

… although you were almost upstaged by Emily (well done Emily!) ….

…. and this flash mob 🙂

Samantha and James tied the knot on Saturday with a beautiful Ballara Receptions chapel wedding in the Melbourne suburb of Eltham.

The boys got ready at a family home in Tecoma, tucked away in the Dandenong Ranges. Although James was doing a pretty good “I’m super relaxed” impression, we got the feeling that there was some real excitement and anticipation starting creep in as I headed off to photograph the girls’ preparations.

Sam and the girls were preparing at an AirBnB just around the corner from Ballara. Starting off with detail shots of Samantha’s amazing Raffaele Cuica dress, cute shoes with some amazing details, and gorgeous jewellery.

Ballara Receptions Chapel Wedding

I’d been watching the radar all morning, and as Samantha was getting ready to leave, sure enough the thunderstorms rolled in…

Arriving at Ballara, I had a conference with Fiona and celebrant John Byrne about how exactly we’d work things in case of rain (or no rain) – Fiona’s plan of still using the aisle and having the girls enter from outside with “disposable” umbrellas worked beautifully.

And as Melbourne weather would have it, as we were finishing family portraits, the rain started to slow down, and finally stop, meaning that we could still get bridal shots around the grounds of Ballara. Sam did amazingly in the fairly wet conditions, and in fact the whole bridal party did an awesome job taking care of Sam and each other.

A personal highlight for me during the reception was the Rocking Out at the back two tables when Bohemian Rhapsody hit just before the speeches – that was brilliant. Those of you who were at those tables, we salute you! 🙂   Check out more of our Ballara Receptions weddings – click here.

On a beautiful Saturday in late October, I photographed the gorgeous Melbourne Spring wedding of Sandra and Andrew, by the lake at beautiful Ballara Receptions.

Starting with the guys’ preparations, I headed all the way across town to Pascoe Vale where Andrew and his groomsmen were all getting ready. Meeting up with Steven Beck our awesome videographer for the day, we got lots of great prep shots with the guys helping Andrew get ready, Mum pinning the flowers and some portraits of Groom Andrew.

The it was across to Gladstone Park to catch up with Sandra, and photograph details of the dresses, shoes, flowers and everything else, before beautiful bride Sandra was ready to put on that amazing dress. With help from the lovely bridesmaids to add shoes and jewellery we were able to capture some portraits before it was time to head off to the ceremony.

Stunning engagement ring-wedding ring combination.

Loved this shot of Sandra and her perfume – it does take a couple of minutes to set the lights but I think it was well worth it for this shot.

Amazing 1937 Cadillacs dropped both the girls and the boys at Ballara.

What an absolutely perfect day for a Melbourne Spring wedding – absolutely perfect weather.

On a Friday in September, 2017 we photographed the fun and happy wedding of Laura and Stephen, at the pretty Ballara Receptions chapel.

Although I’ve phohotographed at Ballara many times, it’s always different depending on the weather. Laura and Steven had made the call earlier in the day to go with a chapel wedding instead of getting married in the garden, and this turned out to be a very fine decision.

After photographing Laura’s preparations, I headed to Ballara hoping that the rain would hold off, and it did – right up until a couple of minutes before Laura arrived. I think you’d agree, judging by the storm in the background of some of the shots of Ballara, that they made a great choice!

Ballara Receptions Chapel Wedding

Absolutely loved Laura’s wedding dress – stunning.

Couldn’t resist this cute ring shot – bit cheesy but what the heck …

Loved making this image for Laura – she’d been a bridesmaid at a wedding I covered earlier in the year, and I knew she was hoping to create a similar shot to this one. Gotta love that natural backlight.

This gorgeous bracelet was a gift from Mum and Dad – arriving just in time for the wedding.

This was the sky that was passing as the wedding approached – good call to move the wedding inside ….

I genuinely thought someone might get injured in this pack mark, and not by doing a hammy either …. 😉
