Frost on motherwort seedheads yesterday, before this balmy banana belt weather moved in. Soon, seeds and dormant roots throughout the herb garden will start stirring in their sleep, throwing off the covers, unmaking their beds, and waking to a warm, sunny world, perhaps a bit too soon. Maybe I’m taking the sleep metaphors too far, but I wonder if a shortened winter has an effect on some northern acclimated plants like too little sleep. Will they spend the season groggy? Will they not be their highest self? Well, if winter is more like a time of slower movement than sleep, then perhaps they’ll be fine, but maybe I won’t because I’m busy filling orders, packing seeds, and running around like these meandering thoughts. Sweet dreams (or sweet slowness), Mama Motherwort. #motherwort #leonoruscardiaca #seedheads #bananabelt Ps I kept hearing Will Bonsall (seed hero from Maine) refer to our region as the “banana belt” a couple weeks back and I found it hilarious. https://www.instagram.com/p/BthCVlolcHE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=idar8rs73467
