Banded Calcite Skull As you know, I'm a self proclaimed banded calcite warrior. Banded Calcite is NOT onyx. Onyx is solely Black chalcedony. In antiquity, calcite was referred to as Onyx, but today as we have more information, the material was reclassified and renamed. It is harmful to call calcite onyx, as they have different chemical compositions, and more importantly to buyers, varying price points. It's like spending money thinking you're getting a luxury car, and you end up with a bus ticket- disappointing af!
