We did a zombie theme for our show this year!
I figured out how to send the link! lol. this is my band's performance from OBA yesterday! Comments: your band's name is cool. Hah. I like the way you guys got onto and off of the field. It was very different. Sometimes the guard was not together very well. A lot of the show had really good intervals. I like the concept and the acting a lot. Very nice crescendo and decrescendo. There were some out of tune moments too. But overall, I really liked it. Great job :3
Check out my schools first comp of the year!
This was so fun to do! But it rained all day :( And in the finals a snare part had to be cut and the first soloist missed a note :/ but recovered well. Just thought I’d submit the link
Football Player Issue
(I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I always feel bad when I send multiple asks to finish telling a story. :x)
I saw the recent submit about the freshman who didn't want to work and it reminded me of a kid who joined pit this year. He and I are both freshman, but the difference between us is that I actually try. (I've also been playing marimba since 7th grade.) He never goes to practice because he has to go to football practice (They fall on the same days of the week.) and never works in class so he never knows his music. He doesn't even know how to read music for that matter. I've been fairly patient with him this year, trying to help when I can, but he's gotten so lazy that I just have given up trying. The other day he even had the audacity to hit me in the face, call me a bitch, and then continued to brag about how he can play marimba better than I can. As much as I want to see him succeed, it's honestly the most annoying thing trying to find parts that he can play, but wont bother to learn, so by the time a game comes we have to find a way to fit him in so people won't notice that he's not playing. I honestly can't see why he's in band if he doesn't want to do the work and if football comes first for him. He didn't even care when our director retired. Honestly, this kid makes my blood boil.
Here's the thing though, am I overreacting about all this? I get that being in band is his choice and all, but why be involved when you can't go to practice or read music? We have another freshman this year who played primarily drums, and she didn't know how to read much either, but she's completely excelling and doing so well and has even taught me a few things. She's easy to work with and is willing to put in the effort, go to practice, and work on her parts. So it's not like I'm just trying to cancel him out for being the only other freshman. (Not to mention my best friend is in guard and pit and still manages to learn all of the halftime music, even though she doesn't need to.) Should I say something to him? A lot of other band members, even ones in other sections, have been asking him about it and I'm honestly curious myself. I think one of the reasons he doesn't work is because after we learn what we need to, we goof off. We play beer pong (Without the beer, obviously) in the pit room every day or so, and he actually participates in that. Are there some ways I could try to get him more motivated to learn? I'm honestly lost as to what to do with him, as is the rest of pit. .-.
Reply:
You are absolutely not over reacting. Like I told the other person, talk to him alone. Or go to your BD (or section leader) about this issue. Obviously some discipline needs to be taking place.
Ask him why he's acting like that. He's only bringing the rest of the band down by his bad attitude.
What happens in the band room, stays in the band room.
