Folks who know me know that I hate dealing with electricity, I suck at it, I get shocked and I hate it more. I hate/ fear it to the point that when I have to do work around the house like replacing fixtures I will shut off the house main just to do it.
When Great Grandpa passed each of the grand kids picked one bar light from is extensive bar light collection, my daughter picked this one and it worked when we took it down. At some point in transit the motor shit the bed and it only lit up.
Well, I love my daughter and she loved her great grandpa so I went to working on this light. The first thing I noticed was someone else had already "worked" on it. The original motor had been replaced with an electric analog clock motor. The florescent ring light had been wired into the clock motor and all of that wired into an old extension cord.
I tore all that crap out and mounted a new 6rpm motor and an LED ring light. they worked great and functioned perfect. Two small issues, the motor is a CW/CCW motor so each time you turn it on it goes a different direction, the original motor only went CW and the original motor was a 3 rpm motor, I did not know that until I turned this one on and thought I was going into hyperspace.
Also because I had not made any of the connections permanent a hot wire came off hit another hot wire and tripped the breaker in the shop, did I mention I hate working with electricity?
I ordered a new motor and I look forward to giving this back to my daughter, on her Great Grandpa's behalf.
P.S. All you folks that want to give me electrical advice don't, I spent 40 minuets getting read the riot act from my Brother in Law who is a freaking nuclear engineer and has two degrees in electrical engineering. "Bro, this is so simple." Ok fucker I get it, I'm a retard. LOL
