Bar-headed is a migratory goose that breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes and winters in South Asia, as far South Peninsula, India. Bar-headed is known for the extreme altitude it reaches when migrating across the Himalayas. The main physiological challenge of the geese is extraction oxygen from hypoxic air and transporting it to aerobic muscles in order to sustain flight in high altitudes. Bar-headeds have been tracked flying as high as 7.270 meters up.
