Imagine Dylan fucking you wearing only that damn Jersey 🤤
Sorry I’m a single Pringle and need to imagine these thing 🥴😂
🥵🥵🥵
Unbuttoned so you can get your hands on his bare chest... that would be delightful. COUNTERPOINT? What if YOU waltz into the bedroom in only his jersey and you take him for a ride while you're wearing it. I bet he'd love that. Love it even more if you were wearing his hat too... you could take it off and put it on his head while he's goin' to town.
FUCK. You guys. You've been killing me today. I reblog ONE baseball post and my inbox has been an absolute minefield for my baseball-loving-ass. LORD.
stxvercgersslut is reacting to all of the baseball content, but I think most specifically the photo in THIS post? I think?
My contribution to @mf-despair-queen ‘s Dylan O’Brien Baseball Week.
I was scared that I wouldn’t manage to finish it in time, but I did it! (Whooo)
This almost didn’t get to see the sunlight as I wasn’t sure if I wanted to take part, but I said fuck it and here it is.
In the end, it didn’t exactly end up as I was originally planning it, but when ever have I actually written what I intended to? So here it is, Enjoy <3
Word count: 7236 (wow, it was not supposed to be this long)
Warning: swearing... yeah that’s it.
Summary: Who knew a community game of baseball would be this interesting... or was it something else that caught your eye?
“(Y/N)!” A voice, almost shrill, erupted from your hallway.
“What?” you didn’t move from the couch. Not even a glance at where the sound was coming from. You had gotten used to it by now. Char - your best friend and neighbour - came bursting into your house almost on an hourly basis. It was almost as if you were living your own version of FRIENDS.
“I’m pretty sure you were in exactly the same position when I saw you yesterday.” She said as she walked into the living room. The look on her face said everything she was thinking. “Did you even move in the last 24 hours?”
“Yes.”
“Going to the kitchen or toilet doesn’t count.” She sighed deeply.
“Then no. But why would I. I’m happy just sitting here, watching Netflix and stuffing myself with food.” You tried to assure your best friend, but the look on her face didn’t change. She let out another sigh and started to look around. The disappointment was becoming more and more visible. You couldn’t blame her. The place looked horrendous. There were clothes scattered everywhere and the table in front of you was barely visible because of the empty food boxes.
“This place looks like a shit hole.” Char commented after a long stare of judgement. You only groaned and slid back into the couch. “Oh no,” your friend quickly went over to you to get you up. She grabbed you by the arm and pulled you up.
“Stop it!”
“No. you have to get this place cleaned up and get your ass outside. This is not how you should live your life and you know it.”
“I guess.” the moment she let go of you, you fell down again. This time it was your turn to sigh. Char sat down next to you. “What has gotten into you. You never used to be the girl to cry after a guy.”
“Yeah, well. I never had a guy break my heart after a three year long relationship either, did I?”
“Sweetheart, listen to me.” Char took your hand. “I know it seems impossible right now, especially that it hasn’t been that long, but you have to get over it! Who knows, maybe the perfect guy is waiting for you right around the corner of our building and you will miss him because you’re sulking in here the whole day.”
“I really don’t think so.” you tried to hold in the smile, but the idea of a guy literally waiting for you on the corner of the street made you laugh.
“And I really do.” Char got up again. “C’mon. We’re going out. Leave the trash for later, you need fresh air. Let me just find you some decent looking clothes.” In a straight line she walked towards your bedroom. As she was looking through your clothes, you started to clean up a bit around you. It did feel good. As you threw away the trash, it felt like you were throwing away all the feeling that lead you to this point. It was some kind of cleanse that you only now realised how much you needed.
“I found it! You will look abso- look at you, cleaning like a real adult.”
“Shut up, Char.”
“That’s ok. Just go put on the clothes I left you on the bed. I will clean up some more.”
“Thanks.” you made your way towards your bed where Char had neatly put the outfit that she had found for you. It consisted of some acid washed, high waisted shorts; a simple, loose, blue t-shirt and an old baseball cap that you had since forever. The choices were rather questionable, which made you suspect that your friend already had some plans on where the two of you were going today. That didn’t even bother you. You quickly put on the outfit (adding a flannel around your waist). Then you put on some makeup to make yourself look presentable to the others and put your hair in a sideways braid. Once done, you gave yourself a good look in the mirror. Everything seemed appropriate for a Summer afternoon in California.
“Oh, my god! Yes!” Char suddenly stormed into the room and almost jumped on you form excitement. “You look fabulous. The guys at the baseball game will love you!” you smiled at the compliment, but then actually started to think about what she had said.
‘Wait a minute. What guys? What game?”
“We’re going to baseball game.”
“Let me ask again: What game?”
“Some friends of friends invited me. It’s just a friendly game. I don’t even know whose playing. What I do know is that there will definitely be some cute guys there.” She winked and started to poke me in the ribs with her elbow.
“We are not going to a random baseball game to pick up guys! That will never work!”
“It won’t work if you never try it!” she retorted.
“What if there are only some weird middle-aged creeps there?” you questioned.
“If that’s the case, which I highly doubt, then we can at least enjoy a game of baseball.”
You arrived at the baseball field ten minutes before the game started. You were pleasantly surprised to see that there weren’t any middle-aged creeps on the bleachers between the audience which was actually mostly made up of people around your age. As you looked around, you could definitely spot a few good looking guys.
“I told you so,” Char said in a sing-song voice.
“Shut up,” you replied in the same way and send your attention back to the field as you made your way up the bleachers. The players were warming up. You still had no idea who was playing against who, but from what they were wearing you could conclude that the game would be RED vs. BLUE. It was also rather clear that this was just a casual game, as the players weren’t wearing a uniformed outfit, but just any shirt that fitted in the colour spectrum of the team. Some had long sleeves, some had short. Some were in a lighter shade, some what darker. It was all very varied.
“So, how does this work? Who are actually playing?” you asked her while shimmying through the filled bleachers for a solid good minute. You finally found a spot where both you and Char could sit. It was pretty good. The sun wasn’t shining in your faces and no tall people were sitting in front of you to spoil the view.
“I think it’s just a community thing or something. Not sure what they call it In the summer they play almost daily. If you want to play, you can just sign up and you’re on the team.”
“How do you know this exactly?” you asked her. Char just shrugged and completely changed the subject: “Does anybody catch your eye?” Char asked you with a grin. You laughed at your best friend’s stupid comment.
“We’ve literally been here for less than a minute.”
“That doesn’t answer my question, does it?”
“No, I haven’t. Now let me enjoy the game.” you turned back to the field. The players were starting to spread around the diamond. The game was about to begin. The red team was starting in defence.
One player in particular stood out to you. He wasn’t standing that far away from you. A bit to the right of the first base. He was talking to a teammate that stood a couple of feet behind him. You had no idea what they were talking about, but it involved some weird dance that the guy was doing. Even from the distance of your seat, you could see the bright smile on his face. It was kind of adorable in a really dorky way. Quickly, the dancing infielder stopped moving and was looking in the direction of the home base. The first blue batter came out to the field, bat in hand.
“For which team are we actually?” you quickly asked Char before the game officially started. Char shrugged with her shoulders. “I have no idea. Let’s say… the team with the cutest players.”
“Of course.” you rolled your eyes. In the meantime, the pitcher came up to the mound. All eyes were on him as he stretched out and threw the ball. Not even three seconds later, the ball was already coming back to the direction where it was hit from. It flew over the heads of everybody out on the field. As the red team was doing its best to catch the ball, the player who had hit it, was making its way to first base. Just before he managed to get to the second, the ball was caught.
The game was going by smoothly. At the moment, the red team was a few point ahead. It was also their turn to bat. Char had decided that this was the team you were rooting for, as they had the players with the “cutest asses”. You couldn’t disagree. The red players were good looking.
“Do you want anything to drink?” I asked her. She nodded, but kept all her attention on the game. So much that she didn’t even notice when she didn’t manage to get the popcorn in her mouth. “You know, maybe one of them would even go out with you, if they wouldn’t see you slobber all over yourself like that,” you commented with a grin. Char glanced at you angrily: “Shut up, (Y/N/N/). Just get me a coke or an iced tea.”
“You got it.” and with that, you stood up and started to slowly go through your line of seats on the bleacher. You apologised to the people you walked in front of. From afar you could hear the sound of a bat hitting a ball. People cheered as usual, but a few nearby started to shout in your directions. You turned around to ask what they had said. That wasn’t necessary as suddenly you felt a horrible pain in your shoulder blade. It was like you got hit by a rock.
“Oh, fuck!” you yelled out in pain. The hit knocked you of off your feet. Fortunately, somebody caught you before you had a chance to hurt yourself evenmore. Char quickly moved through the audience.
“Oh my god, Are you OK?”
“I think so. It only hit my shoulder. Ow.” you groaned in pain as you tried to move your arm.
“Should we go to the hospital? To get it checked out?”
“No. I know what a broken bone feels like. I just think it might have hit a nerve or something. I’ll be fine… but some ice would help.”
“I’m on my way,” and she was off. Only then you realised that everybody around you was looking at you. Even some of the players out on the field were staring in your direction. The others were exchanging looks between you and another part of the field. You couldn’t exactly see where they were looking.
“Are you sure you’re feeling ok?” a girl behind you asked. You turned around carefully and assured her that everything was great. She didn’t seem to be completely convinced, but she didn’t go further into it.
10 minutes later, Char came hopping back with an ice-pack. She held it against your shoulder and the contact made you slightly wince. This concluded another conversation where you had to convince her you didn’t have to go to the hospital.
The game finally ended with the score of 5 - 4 for the Red team. Even though somebody from that team had made a murder attempt on you, you were still excited for them. You did have to show your dedication to your favourite team… even if that choice was simply made by the looks of the players - It was the thought that counted.
You walked down the bleachers, followed by Char. She denied it when you asked, but there was no doubt that she was on the lookout for more rogue baseballs. The bleachers weren’t crowded, so it was easy to walk down. There weren’t a lot of people at the game and those who were, left the bleachers very quickly.
“Wait!” a voice caught your attention when you were almost ready to leave the field. You and Char turned to the way where the voice was coming from. If you were sure, it had come from a guy in a red shirt and some black gym shorts. You recognised him immediately. He was walking towards you. The expression on his face wasn’t very clear.
“It’s the dancing infielder.” Char quickly told you, but you already knew that. “I’ll go to the car. I see you later.”
“Who says he wants to talk to me.” you asked quickly. Char smiled and shrugged her shoulders: “Why would he want to talk to me?”
“Why would he want to talk to me?”
“Just talk to him. You need this much more than I do.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” you realised it came out a bit more rude than you meant for it.
“You need some action right now. So what’s going to happen is: I’m gonna go get the car and you are gonna talk to pretty boy over there and after that, tell me exactly what happened. Kapish?”
“Yes. Whatever.” you said unamused. Char looked at you with a smile filled with self-accomplishment. You watched her walk away. Before she left the field, she gave you a quick thumbs up. You, on the other hand, showed her another finger for leaving you all alone. Not a second later, the infielder in red walked over. Once he was next to you, his expression changed to a kind, but obviously nervous, smile and a awkward “Hi.”
“Uhm, hey.” you said unsure.
“Hi. Shit I said that already, didn’t I. I just wanted to say… wow, this is the worst introduction in the world.” he looked so embarrassed. You started to feel a bit sorry for him, but couldn’t help let a small smile go. “Yeah, so I’m, er… No, what I mean is uhm...I was the guy that hit you.” as he continued his sentence, his face looked more and more scared. “I just wanted to say that I’m really sorry. It obviously wasn’t supposed to happen. I hit the ball way too hard, and then there was the sudden wind..”
“It’s ok.” you stopped his blabbering. He looked surprised at you.
“Are you sure. Because I feel horrible. Is there a way I can make it up to you? It’s getting late, but uhm… if you want, we can grab something to eat. My treat, obviously.” It was adorable how nervous he was.
“I’m actually kinda tired after all of… you know.” you laughed, making sure he knew that it was all meant in a friendly way. “I was just gonna head home.”
“Then let me give you a ride at least,” he tried again.
“My friend is giving me a lift, actually. But thanks for the offer...again.” with another small smile, you started to walk backwards slowly. “It was nice to meet you…”
“Dylan.” he told you. “What’s your name?” you tried to tell him that it was “(Y/N)”, but right then, a group of people started to shout and cheer, clearly very drunk. You weren’t sure if Dylan had heard it, but you couldn’t make Char wait any longer.
Once in the car, you told her what “Dylan” said. When you were done talking Char just let out a big groan of frustration.
“What?”
“I can’t believe it. How can you be this… urghh!” she hit her head on the steering wheel.
“WHAT?” you asked her once again.
“This was your chance. He was totally making a move on you and trying to ask you out… and you totally blew him off.”
“No, he was just being polite.” you tried to prove her wrong. It couldn’t be that this hot guy was trying to make a move on you.
“Please tell me then, when has a guy ever done something nice, just for the sake of being nice?”
“Not all guys are like that.”
“See what you did there? You just didn’t answer my question and totally proved my point. He was asking you out!”
“He was, wasn’t he?” now you hit your head on the dashboard of the car. “I am a failure.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Char!” you picked yourself up from the dashboard, receiving a big wave of whiplash that did not help your painful shoulder blade. “I have just blown off the hottest guy I have ever seen. Yes, I am a failure. I have officially failed in life!” for some reason, Char only smirked at your melt down.
“Hottest guy you’ve ever seen, huh?”
“Oh shut up.” you rolled your eyes.
“No this is good. You’re moving on. I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks.” you said emotionlessly. Char started the car. Then suddenly a thought hit you: “Wait! Stop!”
“I stopped.,” Char put the car pack in park and let go of the wheel as if to show she was unarmed. “May I know why I stopped?”
“I should go look for him. He must still be here.” you said as you already tried to look for that one specific red shirt in the crowd on the parking lot.
“Girl, no. Don’t make yourself look desperate. Besides, I can see that your shoulder is killing you. You have to get home and rest.”
“But I am desperate. Did you see him?”
“Yes I did. But for now, you have to get home and take care of that shoulder.” and with that she started that car again and drove out of the parking spot. You looked out of the window, thinking about Dylan. Maybe you still had a chance with him. But even if he still wanted to go out with you, how in the hell were you supposed to find out? You didn’t have any way of contacting him and the only thing you knew about him was his first name. Not even his last.
*knock*
There was no response.
*knock knock*
Still nothing.
“Char!” you yelled through the keyhole of her door. It was completely useless and you looked like an idiot doing it, but there was nothing else to do. “Open the door!” you knocked a few more times.
“I’m coming, you idiot!” Char’s voice came from a far. Four of five seconds later, she opened the door for you. She was only wearing a towel and was still holding a toothbrush in her mouth. “What is wrong with you?”
“A lot, but that is not the point.” you said casually while you walked into your best friend’s apartment. “Do you have any plans for today?”
“No. What do you have in mind?” Char asked as she walked into her room. Being unnaturally comfortable in her apartment, you lay down on the big couch. “I heard there was another baseball game today. You wanna go?” you said a bit louder, so Char could hear it from her room. She quickly stuck her head out from the doorway. Her wet hair hanging sideways.
“You should really work on your casual stalking.”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” you stood up from the couch.
“You’ve been going to the games every week since that one time. You’ve got a problem.”
“It’s only been two weeks.”
“Yes, but you’ve also been going to the mid-week games, haven’t you?” she poked her head out again.
“So what, I enjoy the causality of it… and the people are really nice there.”
“People? Or one in particular?”
“If you really want to know, I haven’t seen Dylan once since that one time.” you sighed and leaned against the wall next to her bedroom door.
It was true, what Char said. You have been going to every adults game on that baseball field. You couldn’t think about not getting the chance to speak to Dylan again. And since you didn’t know anything about him, you hoped that this could be a good start. Unfortunately it wasn’t. The players of the games were never announced and there were no schedules or official teams, so you had no idea who was playing when. It also wasn’t always possible to see the players that well. You didn’t manage to have good seats on every game. So, so far you had gone to 5 games. Each one with no luck. Some people would call it stalking, but is it really stalking if the person isn’t even there? It had become a bit discouraging, but there was nothing else you could do.
This was also what you tried to prove Char now.
“I get it, (Y/N/N). But don’t you think this is going a bit too far?”
“Probably.” you slid down the wall slowly until you were sitting on the ground, your elbows on your knees. The sound of a hair dryer filled the momentary silence in the apartment. This was a sign for you that you could walk into the room. Just as you suspected, Char was sitting at her vanity, dryer in one hand, a brush in the other.
“So what do you think I should do?” you shouted out over the noise that the device was making.
“I don’t know,” she shouted back, “but I’m not sure this is the best way to do it either.”
“You’re probably right, but I’m still going today. So do you want to go with me or not.” Char closed her eyes for a second and turned the hairdryer off. When she opened her eyes, she was looking straight at me in the mirror: “Fine.” a thin smile appeared on her face.
Two more weeks passed. Dylan was still nowhere to be seen. If it wasn’t for Char you would have started to think that he wasn’t even real. Just a figment of your imagination.
Char didn’t even know about the last three games you went to. You knew what she would say to you if you told her about it and you really didn’t need it. You just couldn’t get Dylan out of your mind. It was crazy.
This game wasn’t any different. You sat on the bleachers. Almost in the same spot as on that first game. You always tried to get as close as possible to that seat. There was no particular reason for it. It just felt nice.
The game was planned on starting in fifteen minutes. The crowd was slowly filling up. All kinds of different conversation were being held around you, but you didn’t hear any of them. Your mind was occupied by that one brunet who you haven’t stopped thinking about for weeks. You realised it might have gotten to far when you saw him dancing on the field. And now I’m hallucinating about him. Great. You shook your head vividly to make the hallucinations go away, but they didn’t. You looked in the direction of where he stood. It was just like the first time you saw him. Only it wasn’t.
Even though you were far away, you could see the facial hair he had grown since the last time you saw him. He was also wearing a different shirt: instead of the long-sleeves red, he was wearing light blue, almost grey, t-shirt. The only thing that didn’t change was his little dance. You smiled at the realisation that finally managed to find him… then quickly stopped after realising that you were actually turning into a borderline stalker.
Now that he was right there, you had no idea what to do. The game was about to start, so you couldn’t go up to him. There was no way you could get his attention from here. But it could be too late after the game. So you just stayed right there where you were.
The crowd started to cheer when the pitcher walked up to the heap. He made contact with the batter opposite of him. You were sitting quite far away from all of it, so you couldn’t see the exact actions, but the batter had clearly given a signal. Not a second later the pitcher was already getting ready to throw the ball. The small sphere flew across the field to the batter, who hit it perfectly. You could see the ball getting closer to the bleachers. A small heat-wave hit your cheeks and you could feel your heart beating faster. It had been happening ever since you got hit in the shoulder the first game. Clearly there were some thoughts in the back of your head, that kept on repeating that it could happen again.
Your small panic attack faded away when the ball began to descend in the air. You realised that it was close to Dylan. Fortunately he had seen it too. He started to run backwards, his eyes glued to the ball. He was about to catch it...when suddenly, his leg tripped on an uneven piece of ground. The rest of his body was still trying to run after the ball. This resulted in a hard fall to the ground. Even the people all the way in the back of the stands could hear the moment his body hit the ground. The sand went up in a dust cloud around him. All the eyes were on him. The people who couldn’t see very well (including you) stood up. You had your hands covering your mouth as you watched with anxiety. It looked like a really bad fall.
Once the dusty sand had cleared. You could see Dylan properly. He was laying on his back, pain and frustration filling his face. He tried to get up, but there was clearly something not right. Finally somebody from the team jogged up to him and helped Dylan get on his feet. The two men exchanged a few words. Then, after who knows how long, the other guy walked back to his position. Dylan looked towards the homebase. He gestured something to the umpire. Apparently he was still going to continue playing. You cheered loudly and people followed. Dylan gave a surprised smile to the supporting audience. For a second, it seemed like he was looking straight at you and smiling even wider, but that wasn’t possible. He didn’t know you were even here...and how would he know where you were sitting? You shook the thoughts out of your head.
Dylan in the meantime, shook of the dust from his clothes and out of his hair. He had given another thumbs up the rest of the team and the game resumed. You tried to pay attention, but every now and then you just had to catch a glance of him. He didn’t seem to be bothered by the earlier fall. On the contrary, he seemed perfectly fine. His smile lighting up his whole face, which was still so dirty from the sand he fell into that you could see it from the bleachers.
It was the last inning. The teams were currently in a draw. It was the batting turn for the blue team and there was only one person left to bat. On the field, there was also only one player on a base: Dylan. He stood in the middle of the second base, waiting in anticipation for the ball to be hit. As the game had continued, it was clear that the hit at the beginning had done more damage than it seemed at first. Dylan had clearly some trouble running. He tried to hide it, but you could see it -which meant that other could see it too.
The last batter walked up. For the first time in a while it was completely silent in the crowd. Everybody was concentrated on the game. This one hit would make the whole difference of who would take the win.
The usual signals between pitcher and batter were made. The ball was swung and just soon after also hit.
Everyone’s eyes followed it as it went up in the air. Everyone’s, but yours. Yours were glued on Dylan. As soon as he had heard the bat hit the ball, his legs started to move. He ran and ran. It made you feel out of breath just looking at it. Before you knew it, he had passed third base and was heading home. As he was running, the other team had managed to get the ball and it was coming in his direction. There wasn’t a lot of time left. You watched anticipatingly.
Suddenly his tempo sped up. It was like somebody stuck a fire under his cute ass. Did I just seriously think about how his ass was cute? Apparently so.
“He has done it, ladies and gentleman!” the commentator spoke out of the speakers around the field, “O’Brien has reached home base and with that scores the last point for his team. Team Blue wins the game!” People all around you started to cheer. You did too, but not a lot. You were to busy walking down the steps of the bleachers and then around the field to where Dylan was standing. While going down there you had two thoughts on your mind: 1. Dylan O’Brien is a really handsome name and 2. How has this organisation not come up with better team names than “Team Blue” and “Team Red”?
When you had reached the catcher’s corner, Dylan was talking to some of his teammates. A big smile was plastered on his face. You stood behind the big net and started to think how to get this attention. He had clearly not noticed you yet.
“That was very well played, mr O’Brien!” you shouted out from behind that net. Dylan immediately turned around from the group. When his eyes caught yours, you waved with a small smile. You weren’t exactly sure how Dylan would react after all this time, but this reaction gave you the confidence you needed to talk to him again. Especially when he started to walk towards you.
“Hey,” you said once he was in reach to hear you properly.
“Er, hi.” he replied. His eyes looked confused, but something in them said that he was really happy to see you. You couldn’t explain it yourself how you knew that.
After the small greeting, nothing else was said. It was weird. For weeks you tried to find this guy again and now, that you have finally done it, you had literally nothing to say. Dylan seemed to have the same problem. He did manage to speak first finally: “So..did you enjoy the game?”
“Oh yeah. You were great.”
“Even when I fell on my face?” he laughed. The smile that lit up on his face was contagious. You replied to him with a smile too: “It wasn’t that bad, believe me. If anything, it made you look even better.” For some reason, saying that, made you blush. “And it still looked better than what happened to me.”
“Still not over it, huh?” he asked slightly ashamed. He also leaned against the net that protected the audience from possible balls thrown at them from the pitcher during a game.
‘Well, I don’t know about you, but getting a shoulder blade fractured isn’t that easily forgettable.”
“Fractured? Oh fuck. How have you not sued me yet?”
“Why do you think I’m here,” you looked him dead serious in the eyes. The fear in his was slowly coming up. He looked speechless. That was a sign for you to release him out of the misery with a laugh: “Oh wow, I was just kidding..also about the fracture. It was bruised though, for like two straight weeks.”
“Are you ok now?” he looked genuinely curious and concerned.
“Yeah. I’ve had worse. What about you? It looked like a pretty nasty fall.”
“My head did hurt for like most of the first half of the game. But it’s all good now” he combed his fingers through his hair. “To be honest, it’s all your fault, really.”
“My fault? Please elaborate.”
“Well, you see, when I was trying to catch the ball, I couldn’t help but glance into the audience, right there,”he pointed to the spot that you were sitting in, “and there you were. It took me aback for a second. And then I fell.”
“So now you’re blaming me for being a clumsy idiot.”
“I suppose so, yes.”
“Well then, Oh my god,” you changed your tone into a slightly more dramatic one, “I feel horrible. Is there a way I can make it up to you? It’s getting late, but uhm… if you want, we can grab something to eat. My treat, obviously.” Dylan didn’t appreciate your little joke, but you could see a smile forming on those lips. “Hahaha, very funny. Just for this, I sure hope you meant the offer,”
“Uhm, sure.” you smiled.
“That went easier than last time, didn’t it,” he said. “I just need one more thing.”
“And what would that be?”
“How about your name?” He looked at you with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
“(Y/N).”
“Nice to meet you.” He wanted to shake your hand, but realised that it wasn’t exactly possible through the netting.
“You know, you kinda drove me crazy after you left that day.”
“What do you mean?” you asked as you took another sip from your milkshake.
You were sitting on a bench in the park nearby the baseball field. Before getting there, you made a quick stop at a small diner where you knew you could get quick take-out. You were about to pay, when Dylan had quickly slid his money on the counter. You were confused by the actions, because weren’t you supposed to pay? When you tried to say something about it, your brain suddenly turned into mash when you saw that wink of his.
So after you had gathered yourself back together, you took a walk to back to the park and talked about anything that would come up on the way. That was how you got here:
“Well, here I was talking to this gorgeous girl, who sort of rejected me, twice for that matter, and then leaves without even giving me her name. Completely nothing!”
“You won’t believe how bad I felt after I got into the car.” you almost pleaded, mentally blocking out the part where he called you gorgeous. You knew very well that you wouldn’t be able to say a single word normally if you would start to think about it now, “To be plainly honest with you, I didn’t realise you were trying to ask me out. So I am really sorry.”
“You should be. You made it damn near impossible to meet you again.” this made you raise an eyebrow.
“You were looking for me?” you questioned. Dylan looked a bit dumbfounded.
“Oh shit, now you probably think I’m some stalker. It’s not as creepy as it sounds.”
“Wow, calm down. It’s not as bad as you think. I kinda, maybe, have also been looking for you too.” you said, unsure of how he would react.
“Really.” his concerned expression quickly changed into a smirk. “You have?”
“Yeah. So I suppose we are both weird stalkers.” you shrugged. “How did you even try to look for me?”
“I started out by asking a few people around if they knew who you were. Well, after four of five I realised that was useless since you had told me that you were there with a friend and that that friend was giving you a ride, so obviously nobody knew you there.
“So quickly after that, it hit me that it probably would have been much easier if I had just followed you to your car. But by the time I had gotten to the parking lot, you were gone.”
“So what did you then?” you were genuinely curious. Was it possible that this gorgeous baseball player was just as crazy as you were?
“Well, I had been going to most of the games here since. Just watching the game and in the meantime looking for you.”
“You’ve been going to all the games, ever since we met?” You couldn’t believe it.
“Well no… I mean yes. But don’t get freaked out or anything. It’s just that I thought you were really cool that day and I couldn’t let the thought of not seeing you again out of my mind… But now that I have shown you my true stalker colours, I’m gonna go.” he was all ready to get up from the bench and ready to leave. You laughed and quickly grabbed him by the arm before it was too late. “You should really let me finish talk for once. Or at least not talk that much.” Dylan seemed confused.
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve been going to the games too.”
“What? No! But.. how did I not see you there?”
“I don’t know.” you said through a laugh. “But I was there. I am just as much of a stalker like you.”
“Oh thank god.” he breathed out a sigh of relief. You were about to say something when you’re phone started to ring. You excused yourself to Dylan and took the phone from your pocket. Just as you expected, Char’s face lit up the screen. Why did she have to face-time you right now? You answered the call with a roll of the eyes.
“Hey, do you know where I left my-”
“Char, I can’t really talk right now.” you interrupted your friend. She only then realised you weren’t home. “Where the hell are you? Oh god, are you at a baseball game. Please don’t tell me you’re at a baseball game.” she groaned.
“I’m not.” you honestly said.
‘Good. We had this talk already, but I am ready to say it again. Don’t waste your whole summer looking for some guy you barely know. I’m sorry to say it, but it makes you look a bit desperate.” You were about to say something in return, but Dylan was quicker. He moved up to you and put his arm around you to be able to be visible to Char. “I don’t think she’s desperate.” He gave you a quick smile and wink that made your legs, even though you were sitting, go weak.
Char was completely speechless. She looked at Dylan with her wide mouth wide-open.
“I’m gonna go now,” you told her. The only thing she was able to do, was nod her head up and down. She was still doing it as you ended the call. “So, that was Char,” you laughed.
“She seemed nice.” Dylan said. You couldn’t help but notice that his arm was still around you. You weren’t sure anymore if it was getting warmer because of the body heat he was radiating, or if it was you heating up. He was so close that the smallest of movements would make your lips connect. He probably wasn’t intending on make you notice it, but you could see him glance from your eyes to your lips. It was for less than a second. If you had blinked, you definitely would have had missed it.
Then the moment broke with the sound of your phone again. You had the biggest urge to just throw it away. Dylan jerked away from you. Suddenly, cold air hit you.
To no surprise, it was Char again. This time calling you regularly. Probably too scared to face Dylan again. You answered the call.
“What?”
“Uhm, I just wanted to say I’m sorry,” she apologised.
“Oh you will be sorry.” you said through slightly gritted teeth. The reaction made Dylan laugh. With Char still on the other line, you only mouthed the words “shut up” to him. You tried to look at least a bit intimidating, but your smile had ruined it.
“Oh shit, were you guys about to.. In the park? On a first date? I would have never expected this from you.”
“Don’t be stupid, Char.” you said. “Is there anything else you would like to say or can I hang up?” There was a long moment of silence.
“You can hang up. Just remember what I always say: Anything you do, DO IT WITH PROTECTION!” she yelled out before hanging up herself. Dylan’s laugh filled your ears once again. There was no denying it that he could hear that conversation. You weren’t even mad. His laugh was mesmerizing.
You were about to turn off your phone, but then saw what time it was. The time went by so quick without you even noticing. “It’s getting pretty late.” you said, almost whispering as it was more to yourself than to him actually. He did still hear it.
“Well, let’s go then.” he got up.
“What? Where?” you asked confused.
“To your apartment.” The reply made you even more confused, causing Dylan to smile, “I mean, only if you want me to walk you home.”
“I would like that,” you finally said one you understood what he meant all this time. He offered you his hand and you gladly took it. Then you walked out of the park side by side.
The mindless conversations continued. It was crazy how easily you could speak to Dylan.
Then the time had come for you to get your keys out, to get inside the apartment complex. You tried to assure Dylan that you were fine from here. “I really don’t think there will be any serial killers waiting for me upstairs.”
“Well see, I was about to leave, but now you got me worried.”
“Then come on in.” you held the door open for him. He quickly slipped through and then you let it go. The entrance hall in the building was (as always) empty and didn’t look inviting to anyone.
“Are you sure there aren’t any serial killers here.”
“Yeah.” You weren’t. Besides from Char, you barely spoke to your other neighbours. Who knew, maybe you lived above Hannibal Lecter.
As the elevator was broken, you walked up the stairs. Normally you hated to walk all the way up, but this time it didn’t bother you. You were actually glad to spend more time with Dylan.
“Well, here it is.” you stopped in front of your door. “I had a really great time.”
“Yeah, me too. We can do it again… if you want of course. I uhm-”
“I would love to.” you said looking into his eyes. You were so lost in them that you didn’t even feel how close you were standing to each other.
“How does a baseball game sound like?”
“Amazing,” you replied, still dazing off.
“Great,” Dylan’s eyes literally lit up in excitement. “I will call you.” he said as he walked off back to the stair. You were just glad that he didn’t fall and that you had exchanged numbers earlier.
“How was he?” someone suddenly asked when Dylan left the corridor. It should have scared you, but it didn’t.
“Fuck off, Char.” you yelled at your friend for eavesdropping on you, but the smile on your face didn’t leave as you thought about the amazing afternoon you had.
