#basic functions of session border controllers

I've been thinking about it lately so I wanted to blog about how Vogon handles requests.

If you have no interest in web frameworks feel free to skip this one.

Vogon as a core framework is basically nothing. It's a few functions, some starter classes, and a codified file structure. The main idea was for it to be hugely flexible without getting in the way of whatever project it was applied to.

This means that it has no static routes. By design there are no specific php URIs built into the code. And I don't mean that in the WordPress way where there are no static routes, except for the login url (and some other items). There are no static routes. If the framework is used as intended, the only PHP file your request is routed to is the main index.php file of the vogon folder structure.

What that means is that when you enter a url for a vogon instance you'll enter in something like this:

If you know your URL structure we can go ahead and break this request down a little

When vogon is installed, it analyzes the URI of the request that accessed the installer (though this is user overridable), this allows the framework to be aware of when it is in a subdirectory rather than an exclusive url. That is the case with this request, so we can break our URI into two sections:

[Vogon Root URI] - /vogon [Vogon Route] - /ebooks/view/53066

Before we break things down further we should talk about what's happening in the framework itself. The protocol, hostname, and Vogon Root URI tell the web server to send a request to Vogon application. The web server is then configured to route that request to the index.php file inside the web root. The exception for this is direct access to static files. This enables us to load static assets like JavaScript or CSS files. It does also mean that standalone PHP files can be accessed, but Vogon controller model and view files are all dependant on being loaded through their helper functions and will only error, if anything at all, if loaded directly. An optional security file can be prepended to ensure no unauthorized php execution occurs, but that involves some intensive configuration by the user, and sometimes results in false positives.

Getting back on topic. The request is routed to the index.php file. The index then looks for a new install flag file in the main directory. If this file exists then the install process has not been completed and the installer is loaded.

However, if that file does not exist, the system will load the bootstrap.php file from the /main/ directory, which is where 99% of the Vogon code lives.

The bootstrap loads any classes in the /main/class/autoload/ folder, establishes a database connection if one is configured, and loads our functions from the /main/functions.php file. If user sessions are enabled by the user extension, the bootstrap will attempt to establish an existing user session, if it can't a login screen is shown.

This login screen will be shown to any request, this is useful because unlike other systems with a static login route, you post your login to the same uri you requested originally, so no complicated redirects have to be done.

So far we haven't done any route parsing, and everything done by the system is the same for every request. But now we must calculate what other files need to be loaded, so we load /main/router.php

I think I'd actually like to move this to an extension so it's borders are a little better defined and it can be replaced/configured a little more easily (and so the system can include additional routers to choose from).

The media server version of Vogon is the most mature, so let's discuss that router.

In this router, the router only handles the first step of the process, the endpoint. In our example url that would be '/ebooks'. The router takes the endpoint it's been given and compares that against a database `routes` table. The routes table links controllers to endpoints. These controllers can live in the /main/controller/ folder or in a /main/ext/[ext-name]/controller/ folder. The system will attempt to load the defined controller, if no controller is found it will load the default 404 controller (404 is the http status code for "Not Found").

Then the controller is able to take over routing however it would like. This route is currently configured to use the /main/ext/ebooks extension, and loads controller.main.php from within that extension.

Vogon has a built in function called get_slug_part(); that allows parts of the URI to be accessed as if they were an array. The router uses slug[0] to determine the endpoint, so most controllers look first at slug[1] to determine what action to take. Remember, we are looking at this part of the URI /view/53066

The ebooks controller.main.php uses a switch case based on slug[1]. In this case slug[1] (view), tells the controller that we are viewing an ebook. The ebooks extension then loads controller.comic_book_reader.php.

controller.comic_book_reader.php gets slug[2], checks to ensure that it is numeric (and thus presumably a database ID), and then it attempts to look up that document by database ID. It compares the type of that document (if anything successfully comes back) against a subset of types it knows how to handle, and if it can it loads that document into a view and you are served what you requested.

In this particular instance, that view is the JS PDF library developed by Mozilla, that has been configured to read the filename of the PDF to load from the "file" GET variable.

That's it. That's a full request handled by Vogon. This is the point where output is actually returned to the user (if they have a user session).

Any enhanced individuals who agree to sign must register with the United Nations and provide biometric data such as fingerprints and DNA samples.

- Any who AGREE to sign. I dont think this is asking too much. If ur working for a government agency, if ur using force in any way during ur work, I think its fair to ask you to give them biometric data. And if its only so in case there is an investigation afterwards (which their always should be imo) its clear distinguishable who was where and did what.

- Also, what if someone suddenly decides "something happened, im changing sides, imma take revenge" (no matter if its a concious decision or brainwashing 👀)? Would probably be good to have some data and perhaps be able to track them. If its managable or not- hm. But theres no harm in giving that data if ur only goal is working towards a safer world.

- If enhanced people were to work under an organisation (that is ideally not as shady and riddled with Hydra as Shield was) then those incidents would be covered. Yes it would still be terrible but Spiderman would get mandatory therapy session to work through it and the normal person... well if theyre dead then i guess the organisation would at least pay for the funeral and compensate the family (like if they were the only one providing for partner and kids), additionally a conversation between both partys if possible.

You cant possibly know how much power you actually have. Is there gonna be another level-up for you? Are you Jean Grey? We wouldnt want to repeat that specific clusterfuck, right?

But if you submit to an analysis it can help find ways to train you, circle ur weaknesses, etc.

Yes the UN would know ur threat level- and that would be bad why? Are you planning to attack Them? If not then no problem. Instead they would know if they should send you in or not- depending... you dont need a level 5 when there is a cat in a tree. We want to avoid unnecessary damage, thank you. If ur a level 1 you also dont want to be on the front lines against an alien invasion for example- better help evacuate non-powered individuals and not die immediately.

Governments are forbidden from deploying enhanced individuals outside of their own national borders, unless those individuals are given clearance as described above. The same rule also applies to non-government organizations that operate on a global scale (including S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers).

For the purposes of the Accords, an "enhanced individual" is defined as any person, human or otherwise, with superhuman capabilities. This includes individuals whose powers are an innate function of their biology as well as individuals who utilize highly advanced technology to grant themselves superhuman capabilities. However, individuals with advanced prostheses do not seem to be considered "enhanced", even if their prostheses give them capabilities beyond those of ordinary humans.

Interview with Allen Tate Wood at North Texas State University in the mid 1980s.

Hello, I’m Tom Waldren and with me today I have Allen Tate Wood, former chief political officer and former state leader of the Unification Church, commonly known as the Moonies. He has been working to inform the public about the dangers of destructive cults since 1975. Some of the public has probably forgotten about Sun Myung Moon.

Tom Waldren: Was this training center type approach, was that Moon, or was that something that grew out of everybody?

Allen Tate Wood: I’d say it’s both. I’d say it comes out of Moon, out of his experience, out of his understanding of the world, out of his understanding of his own life. It also grows out of the teaching, which is essentially dualistic. It gives you a psychology [with an] adversary. For instance those of us who are inside a cult group, we are the chosen people, we are the special people, we are the remnant of God. We are the ones that God has placed his trust and faith in. Anybody who is outside of our group who is critical, they are the adversaries and they are the enemy. So Moon, like other demagogues and dictators before him, has become very adept at identifying an external enemy. For Hitler it was the Jews and the communists. For Mr Moon, it’s the communists and/or anybody who is opposed to his movement. Once you have that adversary setup then it’s much easier to control and manipulate people.

I think that when one goes inside the cult group one is initiated into its rituals, its teaching, its experience, its language, its world-view and that becomes fixed and absolute. Anything which serves that image or that picture, or those goals, is defined as good. By definition anything which is critical of it, is satanic and wrong. So the person who goes into that system has entered a kind of never-never land in which they don’t have access to alternative sources of information. You know this notion that we have [or used to have] in the United States, in our political system, of the loyal opposition. Inside totalist social systems, or destructive cults, you do not have any concept of a loyal opposition. There is total unity. It’s monolithic.

TW: Getting back to when we were talking about Moon being the messiah, and you are not being made aware of that until later on. You talked about an inner circle, or a protection from knowledge. Can you explain how that works.

ATW: Sure. I think that the Unification Church, and other totalist social systems, wind up participating in this mystique of this inner circle. Or this mystique of the, what I like to think of as the gnostic character of the organization. That word gnostic comes from the Greek word gnosis, which means knowledge. And if you study the history of the Christian church you find that, in the period of early Christianity, there were many gnostic heresies. These splinter groups off of Christianity felt that they had special revelation. That God had spoken to them specially. They had a special connection to the truth. And the idea that is most apparent in gnostic groups is this idea that you can’t be saved, you can’t get to heaven, you can’t realize the purpose of your life unless you in contact with that special secret revelation. That idea is very prominent inside the Unification Church. Also this idea of the inner circle is manifest in the Unification Church in the sense that when you hit the borders of the Unification Church, you hit one level of understanding and knowledge. If you join the church and you go in for another year, you hit another level. If you are in for two or three years you hit another level.

It is like the skins [or layers] of an onion. It goes all the way and you get into the center and there is nothing inside. It is vacuous. It is empty. So an example of that would be, for me, meeting the Moonies and hearing on the surface of things that Moon was a pure virgin at the age of 40. That’s one story. After a year I hear he had an earlier wife. That’s another story. After sixteen months I hear that he’s actually had three wives. That is another story. So in effect the cult member who enters this system never really knows what the truth is. He or she always has the sense that the truth is just one level deeper into the organization. As I go deeper in, as I mount up the hierarchy, little bits of truth are dribbled down to me as a reward for performance and obedience. So in the end I’ll get in closer and closer to the circle and I’ll be hearing all kinds of dirty laundry, or facts about the organization that are unsavory. But in so far as I am participating in the mystique of the organization, I now hear that knowledge or that information as divine truth.

TW: When do you reach absolute knowledge? …

ATW: Yes, you are in contact with the truth, but you find out that actually there’s more. There are hidden teachings.

TW: So it is not absolute.

ATW: No, it is not. And your point here is wonderful, because it’s leading to a kind of transformation of terms. What happens at the first as you’re told you’re going to be initiated into the absolute truth. Further down the track all the terms change, and what you find out is, is that absolute truth is not knowledge. Absolute truth is total obedience. And that that is the path to the truth and understanding. So the highest knowledge is total obedience, with a suspension of the critical faculties, with the suspension of the imagination, with a suspension of the independent functions of the conscience. So one of the men who was a Unification Church trainer and leader up at Barrytown, at the Unification Church Seminary, at a place where they had 120 day training sessions from about ’75 to ’77, he said in a speech to the 120 trainees, he said many of you imagine that you can follow Master, that you can understand him, that you can follow him if you understand him. And what this guy said is, those of you who think in this way, Master cannot use you. Master wants the ones who are willing to follow even when they don’t understand it.

TW: But still have absolute knowledge. [laughs]

ATW: There is a contradiction there.

TW: Right, OK

ATW: The real disciple is the one who can follow even when he has no understanding.

TW: How did you feel about that? The whole hierarchy, the whole circles, it just seems to me to be a mass of contradictions. Why, if you have absolutely knowledge, absolute truth, did Moon put so much control over the individuals?

ATW: Well one of the things that the teaching embodies is this idea that the problem with the world has been man’s disobedience to God. And he uses a lot of Old Testament references to buttress that. He says, now the project of God’s dispensation at this time in history is to re-establish obedience. And the Unification Church is at the center of that dispensation, and our job is to find people who will begin to follow Mr Moon no matter what he does. Because throughout history men have been disobedient to God. Now at this time of restoration, men have to demonstrate total, absolute, obedience to God’s representative, Mr Moon. And there are lots of stories from the Old Testament that he uses to buttress that—the story of Abraham and Isaac, the story of Noah and his sons. He also uses the New Testament to buttress this idea.

But in the space of an interview, I don’t think I can make a plain to you. I think that really what is necessary is a lecture like the other night. The talk in which there is a systematic explanation—number one, of the variables that constitute a totalist social system, and number two, an exposition of the variables that are at play inside the training session. Those variables, all working together, produce a situation in which somebody leaves the world that you and I inhabit now, in which we believe in things like shooting from the hip, honesty, basic integrity, and you enter that magical world where the end justifies the means; where you have become one of the elect. You are not just a normal human being, but now you’re one of the chosen people, and you’re not just a servant of mankind, but you are one of the architects of history. And as such you have the right to lie, to cheat, to steal, to deceive, in order to accomplish the sacred mission.

TW: When was that clear? When did it become clear that that is what it came down to? I take it that’s what happened when you finally got into the inner circle. You realized this.

ATW: Yes, I began to accept the idea that it was our job to follow Mr Moon no matter where he went. In effect, since he was the messiah, he could not make a mistake.

TW: But then as you’re following, you see all the mistakes he’s making and the contradictions.

ATW: Yes, but you understand that what he’s doing is correct. And the story I would give to illustrate that is the story of Esau and Jacob. And this is the way Mr Moon explained to us how it was alright for us to deceive people either in recruiting or fundraising, and what Moon says is, take Esau and Jacob, the twin brothers in the Old Testament. Esau is the elder brother and Jacob is the younger brother. Esau’s out in the fields doing something. He comes home into the kitchen. There’s Jacob fixing some food. Esau says, ‘I’m hungry, give me some food’. Jacob says, ‘No I won’t’. Esau says, ‘Come on, I’m very hungry. Please give me some food’. Jacob says, ‘No’. Esau says, ‘Come on, give me some food’. Jacob says, ‘I’ll give it to you if you give me your birthright’. Esau, thinking it’s a joke, says, ‘Go ahead, you can have my birthright’. Later Jacob, the younger brother, puts lamb’s wool on his arms. He takes a special dish of food. He approaches his half-blind father, Isaac, and says, ‘Father, here I am, Esau your first son, please bless me’. Isaac says, ‘You don’t sound like Esau. You sound like Jacob.’ Then he touches Jacob’s arms which have lamb’s wool on them, and Esau was a hairy man. Isaac says, ‘Well, you must be Esau because you’ve got these hairy arms’. Then Isaac blesses Jacob. Jacob is very important in Old Testament history. He’s very important for Christians also. Jews pray, ‘God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob’. Out of Jacob come the twelve tribes of Israel, and ultimately Moses, King David, and Jesus. 

Who is Jacob? He’s a man who lied to his father and stole from his brother. 

Mr Moon says, I, inside the Unification Church, am the universal Jacob. Everyone who stands inside the church with me is Jacob. What’s our relationship to the outside world? They are Esau. Our job in relationship to Esau is to steal the birthright from him. Every single person inside the Unification Church exists on a different moral level than anybody on the outside. People on the inside have the right to cheat and to steal. Mr Moon says, in one of his speeches, ‘God lies’.

American Immigration Standards and the Misunderstanding of Family Separation

Every industrialized nation has immigration laws in place.  America is one of those nations and has controlled the influx of people since British colonization.  The British registered all people who came to America by ship rosters.  Ports required registration and taxes to be paid when a boat arrived.  After the revolutionary war, immigrants were required to report to Ellis Island to register.  With that being said, people still argue that America should have open and free borders.

The American deficit at the end of 2017 was $665 billion.  The largest amount paid towards undocumented immigrants is through health care.  A total of $18.5 billion of federal funds was spent on undocumented immigrants in 2016. In addition to those medical services, immigrants are able to partake in public school, utility services, housing services, food programs, etc.  The money received from the federal government is in addition to the allocated funds from each state which varies based on that state’s budget and allocation to each program.  Frankly, America cannot afford to open borders to all immigrants without those immigrants coming to our country legally and being eligible for employment and taxation to support themselves.  If they are not registered, they do not obtain identification numbers.  Without identification numbers, they cannot participate in employment or taxation.

A common argument against open borders references crime rates.  It is difficult to support this argument because every immigrant who passes the border without completing the required registration is, by definition, a criminal.  Therefore, every undocumented immigrant has committed a crime.  It is understood that the major thought processes focus on murder, rape, etc., but do you want to share your community with someone who lacks the ethics and morals to make the decision which best suits that community? With that in mind, we should not forget that Mexico, the country which provides the most undocumented immigrants to America, has the second highest homicide rate in the world, second only to Syria.  If we allow everyone from Mexico to cross our borders, are we not then allowing them to bring their crime with them?

Many Democrats are calling for The Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be removed.  Many Americans don’t seem to realize that the day to day function of ICE also consists of stopping human and sex trafficking rings and illegal drugs from passing through our borders unchecked.  Because they are also the leaders in border control, political parties are calling for the complete culmination without thought to the effects that this action will have on other areas of oversight.

National security remains at the top of most governmental agency agendas. The world sees hundreds of terrorist attacks a year from ISIS alone.  I fear that today’s millennials are too young to remember the fear, grief, and determination that every American had after that day.  Those in their 30s and older have no excuse for not understanding the need for safe and secure borders.  Without these measures in place, America would be much less safe than it is in its current state.

Lately, it has come to the media’s attention, possibly as a result of the May 2018 zero tolerance decision, that immigrants are being separated from their children at the borders. While many are just discovering this, those of us familiar with government legislation and the law have known that this has been the law for over twenty years.  In fact, the memorandum specifically references laws that were already in place in the United States Code.  It is also important to note that this was not POTUS’ order, but a decision from Attorney General Sessions based on the 203% rise in illegal immigration between 3/2017 and 3/2018.

In 1996, The Illegal Immigration and Immigrant Responsibility Act was passed. This Act outlined when, why, and how deportations would occur.  The Act specified that undocumented immigrants would be incarcerated in the project facility which was built in Anaheim, California while they awaited trial.  In the midst of the adult incarceration, children were being left unattended.  The Illegal Immigration and Immigrant Responsibility Act never specified the treated of accompanied children unless they were refugees under the battered women and children clauses.

Yet, before the Illegal Immigration and Immigrant Responsibility Act, the Flores Settlement Agreement was imposed in 1987.  The Flores Settlement was overseen by the Human Rights First non-profit in California.  The case originated in 1985 based on immigrant children being detained. This settlement specified that when a parent is incarcerated as an illegal immigrant, the child was to be sent to be with family within the United States. If there was no family in the United States, the child would be released to a licensed agency for foster care.  In principle, America was already using the standards of detainment, it just wasn’t enacted until 1996.

Zero tolerance policies and standards in law enforcement are not a problem. All laws should be followed with a zero tolerance policy.  Undocumented parents have been being separated since at least 1985 when the Flores case originated.  Are the masses only just realizing that this is occurring and now they have a problem or have they never cared until it was an item of discussion under the current POTUS?  I have shared the links to The Illegal Immigration and Immigrant Responsibility Act, The Flores Settlement Agreement, and the Attorney General Memorandum for you to peruse at your leisure. Powers and personality for a Knight of Space?

Arighty, back at it again with the Knight of Space. I’ve been a liiittle inactive- see, dropped off the planet for a week or so -I know; just a bit of schoolwork/life getting in the way of things y’feel? Anyyywho, so Knights, they will exploit their Aspect as a weapon and arm themself with it. There’s also the theory that they protect their Aspect or protect themself with it. I’m not exponentially averse to that theory, but I prefer that they implement it as a tool. Space is generally existence of things, creation in a physical rather than a growth type way, which can stem to imagination, and possibilities of things.

Knights start off with a front they put up to hide their inner self of sorts. It’s usually more of a character based deal, but the facades of from the Knights we’ve seen in canon all connect back loosely to their Aspect. They generally seem to be proficient in their Aspect already, though that is definitely just their facade talking. For example, Dave feigns acceptance and indifference; Karkat acts like he doesn’t need his bonds and isn’t worried about them breaking when he’s shouting and angry; Latula is shown to give the impression that she is super chill and unstressed about how people perceive her.

So for the Knight of Space, that can be something more apparent from their Aspect, having trouble making or thinking of things, not knowing where they fit into existence, getting overwhelmed in what’s possible or in seeing what is, etc. Their facade would be heavily influenced by their being and personality, of course, but in general they could appear to be in complete control, even having more of a handle on things than most, or have a superbly in depth plan for themself down to pretty close details. This could bring about depression and continue worsening it, getting them stuck in a loop of being overwhelmed and lost, and struggling to retain any motivation if they aren’t careful. On another hand, maybe the Knight is particularly good at improvising with whatever materials are on hand and can find a use out of anything. They would have a continuous flood of ideas, constantly jumping from one thing to the next. In that, they could end up starting a lot of things and end up not finishing them, as well as having rather erratic concentration or sense of purpose towards things after they’ve moved on to the next idea. They might have a tendency to get stuck on beginnings, have difficulty progressing in projects, and get frustrated easily.  Like many Space players, the Knight could be prone to dissociating, though they might have the opposite, maybe experiencing hyperfocus instead. That could point to them having ADHD/ADD, OCD, autism, or bipolar disorder, though I think that them having an attention disorder would be more likely.

The Knight of Space will mostly just have to learn to chill it a little with their pretenses and let their inner self show more. The point in that is for them to realize that their charade isn’t necessary, and is a detriment to them in the end. Though, yes, that’s true of mostly all Knights. In Space, they will have to work on their focus and difficulties with reality, which will most definitely be an uphill battle. Another part of that is that the Knight needs to let people in, tell people that they’re losing control and getting lost in themself. If they continue on pretending they’re handling things fine and thinking that they can work it out by themself, they’ll very likely just dig themself further and further into a hole that will be bordering on impossible to get out of. Regarding their session, it will be fairly to severely lacking in their Aspect, and they will need to take charge and work to force the session into functioning anyway, in whatever way they can, something they’ve already got some experience with.

In godtiering, the Knight of Space will fully make use of their Aspect as a weapon. That could manifest as speeding up projectiles or increasing their size as they impact their target, teleporting themself or their opponent, though generally shorter distance as the longer the teleport, the more effort required to make the jump, making their own weapons easier to wield or lighter, vice versa for their enemies of course, or maybe just making their opponent’s body too heavy or small so that the Knight is more easily able to defeat them. A lot of their abilities will be combat based, be it altering weapons in pretty much any possible way or form of their choosing, or controlling the tides of battle in a number of ways. Some examples include the above mention of alteration of their enemy, or by a sort of terraforming almost like bending from Avatar, pulling up rocks or mountains, creating craters, moving or pulling trees into existence, breaking the ground below someone’s feet/tripping them up with rocks or roots, and causing general structural mayhem on the battlefield. Basically, the Knight has any terrain/battlefield or weaponry at their fingertips at pretty much any time and can upgrade or bring things into being with not much effort, though is restricted more toward the weapon aspect. As with every Space player, the Knight is tasked with breeding the Genesis Frog for their session. There isn’t a lot they can really do to make this process less difficult. Maybe they could teleport the frogs as their way of disturbing them, but beyond that, and perhaps being able to make utilities to disrupt or capture the frogs more easily, there’s not much else that would make it go more quickly. It would really depend on the player and how creative they are, as one player might think of something crazy that ends up expediting a lot, but a hundred others wouldn’t consider it an option or think of it at all. That does apply to all Space players, but for classes like the Knight, that have abilities less applicable to breeding the frogs, it does especially so.
