Now that I have more time and less money on my hands, I have found away to keep busy, while enjoying myself.
For those of you in the know, have heard of OPINEL KNIVES. Probably one of the most recognized knife makes in the world. Not only that they are affordable and top quality. I carried a No 8 for years as a work edc. Never failed and easy sharpened to a razor edge.
BUT… for me the real…

Looking for sharp and shiny things again. This time, I look for bigger and heavier ones. Well, I’m taking little steps here. Came across this from Gerber Gear. Interesting and certainly a little different.
So got one and took a close look at it. Gerber has some out of the box ideas. Does it work. Check out my review and outdoor dirt time with it.

As you know I am a sharp and shiny addict. I cannot pass up a chance of touchy Feely when it comes to a good looking knife. Well actually any knife that catches my fancy….so there I was…And I saw a knife named KUDU. Nuff said. A name from my youth….here you go…The KUDU LITE from Cold Steel. A knife with a very strong Southern African heritage

So your number one for any stint outside is to first be prepared. Whether you know you'll be outside or you don't you can still have some semblance of preparedness. Today I think I'll go over a simple grab bag for everyday use.
All materials I would recommend for a grab bag will be under the cut just because it will be obnoxiously long.
1. a basic first aid kit
A first aid kit should contain at least an assorted size set of bandaids personally I use wellys because they're cute and I absolutely adore the designs. Anyways before you use a bandaid always clean the wound. You can bring soap and water but if you want to save space you can use hand sanitizer. Past small cuts and scrapes you need to bring things like gauze pads to deal with any larger wounds you might encounter. I recommend also bringing a roll of gauze which can be helpful in a situation where you might need an emergency splint or larger wounds. You can also bring something like a neckerchief which can be used for a plethora of things. I've personally been taught to use them for slings and tourniquets. Along with those things you should also bring scissors, tweezers, and mole skin for any sort of blister you might get from walking long distances.
2. Survival tools
My number one will always be a knife they are incredibly helpful for breaking down wood for fires, starting fires, cutting things, and catching/preparing foods. As well as a knife you should bring a shovel. To be clear not a massive full size grave digging shovel. There are small compact shovels you can buy from places like rei or other camping stores. You should also bring something like a magnesium rod which can be far more helpful than a lighter or a match in damper situations.
3. Fire starters
You can buy small fire starts from plenty of stores but personally it's a bit more cost effective to make your own. I'll go over a pretty basic one real quick
Materials
Wax (candle or like wize)
Lint/cotton balls
Twine
Egg cartons (CARDBOARD NOT STYROFOAM)
First step. melt your wax
The fastest way to Welt one is over a stove always use low heat so you don't burn the wax.
Step two. While you wait for the wax to melt start filling your CARDBOARD egg cartons with the lint/cotton balls and twine (don't use all the twine you have we'll use some of that when we start our fire)
Step three. Pour the wax into the filled egg cartons and let it cool down before you use it
I won't be going over fire construction today but I will explain how to make a bird's nest with twine.
So first a bird's nest is a large ball of pulled apart twine/ other natural fibers. It's fairly easy to build one all you have to do is unwind the twine until it looks Smth like this
That will be the end of today's lessons in survival with black Jesus. If you actually decided to read this far down next time should I go over
