a fever you can’t sweat out… (no text ver. under the cut)
Instead of thinking about my exams, I’m over here thinking about a time travel fix-it Au! Where Basilio and Ibarra/Simoun time travel back at the beginning of Noli and have to work together to stop most of the tragedies from happening.
Imagine if they had to act like themselves too, but it’s a bit of a struggle because after everything that’s happened, it’s hard to remember who you were…
I like to imagine that Simoun dresses so differently from Crisostomo, imagine Maria Clara or Elias wondering what happened to him. Imagine Simoun trying to act like Crisostomo, while knowing what these people are gonna do to him.
Imagine Basilio having to act like a regular ten year old again, but he’s literally a med student who had the best(?) friend group, and well…sometimes he really does want to go and do some autopsies.
Imagine the Simoun looking at Maria Clara and Elias like he’ll never see them again. Imagine him trying to act like himself, but every time he’s talking to Maria Clara or Elias, he’s just walking on eggshells.
Imagine Basilio looking at Crispin and Sisa like he’ll never see them again, imagine him sneaking off into the night to try his best and prevent them from getting hurt, even if it means distancing himself from them.
Imagine Basilio and Simoun arguing about how they should go about preventing the future.
When I told my friend about this Au, she suggested that Basilio and Simoun have to write down what happened to them and who they met, because they are afraid that they’ll forget them. So Basilio gets a high quality diary from Simoun, that he has to hide from his family. (He 100% has…things 😏😏 written about Isagani and Juli, and maybe some other thoughts that he kept to himself)
Imagine if over the course of this fic, Simoun starts becoming Crisostomo again. But this time, a Crisostomo whose eyes are finally open to the injustice that riddles the country. But, while his no longer the past Crisostomo, he realizes that staying as Simoun wouldn’t be much better.
The reactions of the people around them are as follows:
Maria Clara and Elias start trying to figure out what’s wrong with Crisostomo after they get tired of his act. He does act like himself, but Maria Clara can clearly see that he’s only acting, Elias becomes suspicious of Crisostomo after he almost dropped a fact that he shouldn’t have known by accident. Elias starts trying to follow Crisostomo, but since Simoun has been a revolutionary for a little over a decade now, he’s good at covering up his tracks.
Crispin is worried about his brother constantly both always over him as if he’ll disappear if Basilio looks a way for two seconds and leaving him to go home alone because of his “new job,” so after a long while he starts trying to follow Basilio to wherever he’s going. Basilio catches him almost immediately, but Crispin is relentless. So Basilio eventually pulls a Simoun and starts covering his tracks as well.
Sisa is very, very worried for Basilio. First, he comes home acting a little strange, Crispin says it’s probably because they had a bit of trouble at work, maybe she should have Basilio some space? Then Basilio starts coming home later, Crispin says he got an offer for better work, she should be happy about this, right? Then she finds a very expensive looking, new high quality notebook that clearly doesn’t belong to her, her husband, or Crispin. She looks through the notebook and finds drawings of a group of young adults, the most detailed being two drawings of a woman named “Juli” and a man named “Isagani,” but the contents of the notebook are unbelievable, but what’s most unbelievable is that this notebook seems to be Basilio’s diary! Basilio seems to be quite…enamored with this “Juli” and this “Isagani,” though…They definitely look too old for him!! Is this who he’s now working for? Should she be worried? The notebook mentions a group of people who got arrested…is Basilio working for this group? What should she do?
Note: This Au is still in the works and some things may change, it’s also highly unlikely that I’ll write a fic for it right now, as I’m really busy with a lot of things. But, if you like this idea, feel free to write about it! Just credit me for any inspo.
Initial designs for the boys :-). Can you tell who my favourites are? haha. hahaha.

Since they left Basilio and Isagani's fate up for doubts, you ever wonder if Rizal ever planned to turn Basilio into a full parallel of Simoun and Isagani into a full parallel of Elias?
Like imagine, in the middle of Makamisa it's suddenly revealed that Basilio, who was somehow not implicated in Simoun's plot, finished his degree and is now ingrained within the community of San Diego. He works as a community doctor, giving free treatment to the poorer people.
Imagine Isagani, realizing that trying to reason with those in power never works, decides to join the more underground militant groups, hell maybe we can even sneak in Penitente, Penitente family lore, and a little Penilaez angst.
Maybe we could get a quick look back at the other students too, Sandoval turns into a mini Don Custodio; maybe Makaraig follows Sandoval, or maybe serve as a rival to the Pelaez family in the world of business; Pecson enters the legal world, following Senyor Pasta's philosophy of "Bah! Who cares? All that matters is that you have a good life!," and Paulita? Paulita turns into a kinder version of Victorina, sure she's still somewhat matapobre, but her opinion on Indios are better, no doubt thanks to Isagani.
And maybe at the end we could see Isagani and Basilio meet up again, ending the Elibarra/Basigani angst by finally having a happy ending. They begin the revolution, but this time without the flaws Simoun's revolution had. This time, it was a revolution founded on justice; truth; equality, and not founded on rage; hate; and angst.
