Yesterday I watched a Turkish horror film called Baskin (@baskinthemovie) and HOLY SHIT, it was one of the most fucked-up, gruesome (this was the only tame film poster that I could find) and bizarre movies I’ve seen in a long time, and I watch a lot of horror. I actually had to look away and gag at one point.
Baskin follows a group of five cops who are called to the scene of a crime in an area with a creepy reputation. When they arrive at the address, they discover that it’s an old, decaying mansion, abandoned long ago to rot. They then go inside the building and, whoopsie, turns out that it’s not so abandoned after all and is actually home to a large cult. Even better, the cops were apparently summoned there so they could unwittingly take part in a super-gross Black Mass ritual that includes...actually, you know what, words cannot adequately describe just how fucking disgusting this movie is so I’m just going to link you to the trailer instead (warning: it’s bloody).
Baskin is a strange film with intermittent surreal sequences and leaves the viewer with more questions than answers, and the plot was a bit difficult to follow at times. But it’s also a.) beautifully shot and b.) disturbing as fuck (I really cannot stress that enough), so if you’re the kind of horror fan who enjoys a video nasty and is looking for something that will gross you out then this movie is definitely for you.
