BUTTERFLY BEINGS OF BASSNECTAR: LUKE ADAM
What attracts you to Bassnectar?
On the surface, I am obviously massively attracted to and gravitate towards the music and sound as a whole, both studio recordings and at live shows. Bassnectar’s music covers an immense spectrum of genres, sounds, and, most notably, feelings - from going bonkers and letting everything go during “Infinite” all the way to the immense personal reflection felt in “Dubuasca” - and truly encapsulates the entire “amorphous omnitempo maximalism” vibe, which I naturally adhere towards. When this music, composed with such a powerful message, intention, and meaning, is projected with enough intensity to vibrate your whole being and is combined with the fantastic light and visual show and a packed, loving crowd at a live event, it truly becomes a completely immersive event. You’re sucked in, along for the ride, and genuinely a part of the show itself. I must say, this feeling is unique to Bassnectar events and can be quite addicting too.
However, at the core of my attraction to Bassnectar is the immensely positive and powerful messages that Bassnectar and his team spread, which are then echoed by the community and passed on to the masses To me, Bassnectar is far much more than Lorin and his supporting team, but also includes the fabulous and loving community of people. Simply, this movement extends and reaches much deeper than just music and this is what continually attracts me.
How would you describe the Bassnectar Community?
In a word - dedicated. Yes, undeniably dedicated to Bassnectar events and Bassnectar tracks, Bassnectar this and Bassnectar that, but most importantly to each other. While there may be a few who are still learning the message and unfortunately stick out amongst the crowd at times, the support and care within the community for one another is overwhelming. The community as a whole is always there to support each other with resounding eagerness, passion, and genuine care when called upon. This composites one massive, loving support system - one that truly is a family. I think that’s incredibly special.
What is your favorite Bassnectar memory?
Well… while I’ve made countless Bassnectar memories at the live shows, my real favorite Bassnectar moments are actually those outside of the show aspect because they emphasize how Bassnectar, the community as a whole, and music in general truly impact and affect our lives outside of shows each and every day. I can't single out one individually (sorry) but there are three moments that I treasure dearly and highlight the meaning of the community and family to me. The first of which was a Basshead gathering in Knoxville, TN at a local bar called Bar Marley. This is a particularly special memory to me not only for the laughter and fun we all had, but for how the numerous people I had the honor of meeting that night have turned into lasting friendships and connections that I treasure dearly.
My other favorite memories arise from the kindness of two special souls, and I cannot bare not mentioning them as they are the epitome of the love in this community and the embodiment that if you project the love within yourself out into the universe, you will receive it back many times over. Drew Pierpaoli and Lauren Kinney both gifted me one-of-a-kind, hand-made items that possess a value beyond any comprehensible measure for a material object; they are symbols of love and positivity. Both gifts overwhelmed me with love and immediately sent me leaping with joy and excitement and then straight to streams of tears because each was incredibly touching and heartfelt, and I must say, there isn’t anything that can surpass feeling overwhelmed with love.
In what ways do you like to give back to the community?
In terms of the Bassnectar and music community, I absolutely LOVE gifting. From surprising people with lockets, pins, stickers, flags, google eyes, and marbles, hardly anything can beat the feeling of making another person smile. However, with these gifts I aim to spread more than just smiles and laughs, but a message and physical reminder promoting the dispersion of love and positivity. I also adamantly aim to remind and encourage the message of the power each individual possesses to make lasting, positive changes in his/her life and others’ as “FSOSF” preaches, “You have the power to change things.” Understanding this simple message has had a profound effect on my life, and I wish for others to experience the same. These messages may not get across to all, or perhaps even most, but that’s ok; I only hope to reach a few as positivity and love begets more positivity and love, similar to the butterfly or ripple effect. Ultimately, I suppose what i give back most to the community (or attempt to at the very least) is a resounding message of personal positivity - choose love. live love. love love. be love. It all comes from within after all.
Tell us about a connection you made through the Bassnectar Community and how that person has impacted your life.
Wow… it's almost unfair to single out one individual connection I’ve made through this wonderful community because each and every one are immensely important to me and have greatly affected my life. I have met most of my closest and dearest friends and some of the absolute most beautiful souls largely in part to Bassnectar, for which I am forever thankful. However, one relatively recent connection has had a massive and positive impact on my life, even from afar. Through mirrored understanding, positivity, care, and support, this brilliant soul has helped me reach previously unimaginable heights of happiness, joy, positivity, sense of self, and sense of my place in this world and in the Universe. From all of these newfound heights of positivity, I now embrace every minute, every second, and every moment with endless amounts of optimism, excitement, encouragement and intent, which is then utilized to help uplift and bring positivity and smiles to more and more people each day. I have never been so immensely fascinated by another’s mind nor felt such an intense sense of inspiration and motivation for each moment of life, and I've honestly never been more ecstatic for what the universe has in store for the future. It’s quite a truly fantastic feeling, one that I can only compare to those felt during a Bassnectar show (particularly the Android Jones section of this past NYE 360). Therefore, I am extremely grateful for Bassnectar, this community, and our friends making this connection possible, and I am especially eternally grateful for the overwhelmingly positive impact Jenna Wing has had and will continue to have on my life.
