it's really fascinating to me that. it's only in conjunction with catwoman that DC gets the closest to genuinely, sincerely, and with gravity saying that joker is gay. that joker is a gay man who is attracted to and romantically in love with batman, and the tragedy is that he's too unwell to act on it in a healthy way.
and like..... you have something like "white knight" where it comes off pretty homophobic because you've got joker's toxic love for batman contrasted against jack's more stable love for harley. but these moments with selina don't come off like "heterosexuality is healthy/natural and homosexuality is unnatural/mental illness" because it's usually used to highlight the flaws in both relationships, both selina and joker with bruce. the tragedy that none of the 3 of them know how to have a normal, stable relationship. or when they come close to it (the wedding arc), they choose not to.
iunno..... is interesting. especially that it's mostly only selina's PoV that's allowed to say these things out loud, both from a character and publishing standpoint. their triadic dynamic is soooooo
