IN CONCLUSION in the 1890s rubber most likely referred to the polymer mixture collected from trees in Africa which was used to create rubber until people learned to make rubber artificially

PART 3 Britain and other European countries had started the Technological Revolution sometime in the 1860s/70s and were in desperate need of more raw materials and resources to continue creating machines and shit

part 2: So there was the 1885 Berlin Treaty which basically divided up the African continent for European colonization (super gross) and a major motivation for that colonization was the gathering of natural rubber because (okay part 3 coming)

yooooo I know about this! *excuse me while I go full history nerd for a moment* So rubber exists as a raw material as a weird combination organic compounds that basically form latex sap that grows in trees, particularly trees in Africa! part 1 of 2
