In the 3DS StreetPass Mii Plaza game Battleground Z, one of the available weapons is the Wii Remote (obtained by talking to a survivor who likes playing video games). However, when attacking with the Wii Remote, instead of just swinging the weapon, the Wii Remote briefly turns into a sword.

This could be a reference to Wii Sports Resort's Swordplay games, or the Wii U title Nintendo Land's The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest game (which plays very similar to Swordplay's Showdown in Wii Sports Resort) where the player uses the Wii Remote with a Wii Motion Plus accessory as a sword.
