On the 13th of February, my seminar group (C) was tasked with producing a 90-second studio drama in which we were only allowed to include 10 words of spoken dialogue. Originally, this appeared to be quite the challenge, however, once our group got to know each other and expressed our enthusiasm for this new challenge, I became excited to collaborate with a new group of my peers.
After brainstorming, our group decided to produce a failed date in which one character proposes to the other. However, character two declines the offer and admits they are in love with character one’s brother. Our actors, Ellie Fisher-Shah and Jack Vanner were excellent at taking direction and were patient with our crew whilst we eased into our roles for our first studio drama. I took on the role of director for the day as I had not tried it before and fancied a challenge. Jack Morton was able to give me a helping hand throughout the day as he has experience directing from the semester one magazine show!
I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of directing, specifically working with my camera operators to decide which individual angles/shots worked best in our sequence. I would be interested in trying this role again in future studio sessions as I am interested in roles that involve taking a creative lead on set.
Overall, I would say the day was very successful! Our teamwork was excellent and I particularly enjoyed working with Ky Ozgun and Ava Bhathena-Bassett for the first time as they supported me a great deal with my first time directing.
