Renaissance Ornament in The Coloured Ornament of All Historical Styles
Today we are featuring Renaissance decorative plates from The Coloured Ornament of All Historical Styles, Part III: Modern Times by Alexander Speltz, published in Leipzig, Germany in 1915 by Baumgärtner. The multi volume portfolio was produced with three color and four color printing based on Speltz’s original watercolor paintings.
The plates depict Renaissance decorative arts from various regions. The Italian ornament shows façade painting, pillar and ceiling decoration, and book ornamentation. The French ornament shows carpet painting and metal works. There is also German book ornamentation and textile works and Spanish and Portuguese textiles and embroideries.
