001: Someone Else's Mess
There was a reason Blaine never took a day off during the week. No one had ever believed him that there would be problems if he wasn’t there, busting his ass to make sure everything went smoothly and nothing had been forgotten in the center’s normal routine. On the weekends, the owner was around, which kept any uncontrollable situations from arising; but during the week? That was where Blaine was needed the most.
His five co-workers that divided up the time during the weekdays were nothing short of lazy and not nearly qualified enough to be caring for anyone else’s children. In fact - he was thankful none of them had any kids of their own. However, a family emergency had ripped him out of school and out of town before he had a chance to object. When it turned out that he wasn’t needed for said ‘emergency,’ and that it was “an adult issue,” he found his own way home and promised himself he was going to resume his perfect attendance streak.
The proof of them needing him there was written all over the place as he wandered into the center the next day. The room was a disaster, there were no snacks or drinks for the kids, the phone was ringing off the hook and the parking lot (for whatever reason) was full of broken glass that had come from an upstairs window. Lovely. This was exactly why he was never going to be able to leave. Not without hiring some help of his own, anyway.
Anderson took it upon himself to make a quick run to the store for snacks and drinks then answer the phone calls; quickly scribbling down complaints and doing as much damage control as possible. After that, he set up to clean and (at least cover) the shattered window - and when that didn’t work, the door was pulled shut, locked and blocked off so no one could get into it until a professional could fix it for them. Then it was finally time to let everyone in. The Senior was fully prepared for the complaints that were destined to come in to them. Either way, this was going to be a long day.
