i've thrown out the idea on this blog many times, but i've considered writing a long-form post about peter (and alex)'s asian/viet representation in BCB! this desire has been only been heightened since I replayed peter's route & side story and since I made a viet oc for this game ! :D

i'm no sociologist (just a notes app scribbler that enjoys media) so I'm hesitant to define "asian", "AsAm", or "first/second gen" experiences. if I were to write it, i'd likely frame it through how their experiences resonated with me and what i've personally observed to avoid generalization!

(unrelated can of worms, if there's anything I've learned this past year in uni, it's that there's no one distinct AsAm experience! the Asian diaspora is so diverse! people exist in fluidity and ambiguity, so characters will also!)

my qualifications? I'm an ex-humanities major now in stem, my parents told me not to go to art school, and i'm second gen viet 😎. maybe I should’ve started with the last one?)

ok but jokes aside, the last time i vividly remembered a viet (and chinese) character in a video game was alex chen in life is strange: true colors! it's not often we get cool viet characters in games that don't relate to war. I never thought i'd find this rep in a niche otome VN of all places so i'm v overjoyed :)

my peter dang just oozes transmasculine swag. It’s only my third time drawing him and I think drawing him in this comic has given me a new appreciation. I also think he’s the character I draw the least canon accurate :)

drawing clark winter is always a treat for me because I also have to channel my inner writer when making dialogue or interactions with him. his route is so unique to the other LIs because he and cadence get together at the end of the story and there are very few points of seeing how clark responds to and initiates intimacy.

the kiss at the end of the season? a completely spur of the moment action. he shows care through small affirmations and reminders. a lot of it is up to the imagination though, so I feel like it's hard for any fanon to be "ooc"

the worst part about drawing him though is coming up with alternate outfits. because when I think of high school fashion, I think clark would be one of those polo shirt dudes that wears khakis or slacks (debate bro socially liberal fiscally conservative type beat) WHEN THAT INFAMOUS ARCHETYPE DOESN'T FIT HIM AT ALL!!!!! yeah I have a love-hate relationship with this dude.
