Hey man, I've been working with FL Studios 11 for awhile now and I was wondering if you had any recommendations on good presets and samples to get. Also any tips that you picked up that you feel would help others with producing music? Thanks a lot!
peace..
im glad to share..... i have considered making some tutorial videos which i may do in the future but for now ill just share a few words.
first of all i prefer FL 10 over 11..... because 11 no longer supports "infinity blocks"......which make it so easy to sequence with fruity loops...
while most other programs, reason, ableton, etc. give a higher sound quality than fruity loops with the right VSTs you can get just as good of sound quality out of fruity loops, tho i still do some outside mastering most the time with adobe audition, but it all depends on what type of music you are making.
here are some VST that i consider must have to use with fruityloops.
sugarbytes effectrix...... its FX as it says but some are must have for types of things i do...

^^there are several links to download, just pick one and install.
another is sausage fattener...
its very simple to use..... if you use it in moderation it is a great compressor... if you turn it up all the way it is great for distortion...

you can download it there.
native instruments super charger GT is another one.....tube compressor with other effects...

you can download it there......
you really have to learn to use VSTs if you want to get the most out of fruityloops.... and you need to learn how to assign them to each instrument in fruityloops through the fruityloops mixer....which isn't that hard to figure out if you don't know how to.....
as far as VST that come with fruity loops..... the stock reverb options are not that bad..... though you can't beat a native instruments product of WAVES when it comes to those type of things....
Grossbeat is probably the most useful stock VST that comes with fruityloops imo...... it does a lot..... gating, stuttering, and all types of variations of the master mix or a certain instrument can be done using it....
the one thing that is stock that you can not use with fruityloops is the sounds.... they fucking suck......you will never make anything legit sounding using the sounds that come stock with fruityloops IMO...
and as far as sounds goes, its almost like crate digging...... i can't really give away where i get my sounds from... you guys are gonna just have to search for audio torrent sites and sites that have sample and loop packs for free..... they are not that hard to find...... but it goes against the type of musician i am to give out where i get my sounds lol.
i have right around 55gb now that show up in the sliced beats folder of fruityloops that are all the sounds i use..... i have more than that on an external HD but thats the soundbank i am working with now.....
one thing that is good to make practice.... especially if you plan on making mixes or sets out of your beats...... stick to one tempo.... i know it might sound uncreative......but..... say for instance the standard with a lot of trap dubstep and stuff like that is 140bpm..... i always use that...
BUT with 140 bpm..... you can always also open sounds in fruity slicer, which i probably actually use most out of the built in fruityloops stuff, but i forgot to mention it....
but say the master tempo is set to 140 bpm.....you are not necessarily locked into that time, because you can also open a sample and set it to half of 140 bpm.....70 bpm.....and it can still be on beat.... or you can go one step lower..... 35bpm...... or in the opposite direction....which is a huge difference of pace but still can work with some samples 280 bpm...
and you can do this with any master tempo when you bring in samples with fruity slicer...... master tempo 90 bpm there is always the option of 45 bpm or 180 bpm as well.....
that might be common knowledge..... but it wasn't to me when i first started making beats and it took me awhile to learn to utilize it but once i did remixing things and sampling became so much easier because if it doesn't work at the master tempo it make work under or over as long as the main tempo is factored by....
so yea....
get as many VSTS as you can find the ones that fit your work flow best.....
the ones i have listed are the ones i use most....idk about "presets" besides what i said about tempo i always work at 140 and sometimes 70 but it is always in that range for me with the type of music i have been making......
i do recommend using fruityloops 10 instead as i said because of the infinity block sequencing......which if you switch i can explain....
and sounds......just google your heart out and eventually you will find a site or more that has the type of stuff you are looking for......
umm......one more thing i forgot that i use A LOT.....
native instruments massive....which is a synthesizer that there are tons of tutorials for on youtube to make certain types of sounds with it....its not that hard to use, and after following a few tutorials you can begin to design your own sounds.....
http://peeplink.in/49c15e1b8ff9
you can get that at the link above.......
if you prefer to use torrents all of the things i have posted here for download are available on http://thepiratebay.se as well.
you can probably download them faster that way.
i do have the software to make tutorial videos.......i have just never had anyone ask.....
if you want any specific thing explained better and shown on screen just request it and i will do it........i don't mind....
i can do a tutorial on the VSTs and how to use them..... how to load them to each channel......
how to change the tempos in fruity slicer.......
how to use the infinity blocks if you use fruity loops 10......
just ask and ill help. or you can ask more specific questions. i don't mind at all.
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6834816/FruityLoops_Studio_10.0.9_Producer_Edition_Final
there is a download to fruityloops 10.......like i said, its easier to sequence with imo.....if you want to switch there you go.
and like i said...... the rest of those VST can be downloaded and found on the pirate bay as well.....probably work better that way.
hope this helps..... and just ask for specific tutorials if you want and ill try to do them for you...... even if you want to stick to fruity loops 11, i can still show you things with the vsts and with sampling and such....
im pretty abstract with a lot of things, i work with 2 bar sequences that i mix and match to make the final outcome..... i can show that too.....
so yea just ask. i don't mind helping people learn to make better music at all.
i learned reason first actually..... used fruityloops off and on but eventually once i got the right plugins i stayed with fruityloops....even with using the maschine i still use fruityloops and a mouse more than i use the hardware...... i use my maschine more for live and getting ideas than i do actual composition.
anyways.....hope this help...... feel free to ask anythign else tho.
