Beadnell Bay - One good tern deserves another
Wanted to see the terns (Little Tern especially) at Long Nanny. So we parked at Newton Links House and headed north along the beach.
Soon saw lots of Artic Terns.
It's not easy to cross the Long Nanny Burn on the beach so we eventually headed into the dunes and called in at the Wardens hut. There were only around 10 pairs of Little Terns nesting this year.
There were no good views of the Little Terns from the hut though we watched a fish laden Artic Tern for a while as it tried to land to enjoy it's dinner but kept getting mobbed by other terns.
We crossed over the bridge to see the crate nests from the other side and were lucky enough to see a Little Tern over the river itself.
After the walk we ended up at the very welcoming Dunstanburgh Golf Club for lunch (lasagne and chips) and then sat in the dunes overlooking the beach. We were kept entertained by a lady trying to catch up her partner along the beach but she was unwilling to walk through the shallow water so faffed around for around 20 minutes trying to come inland, before eventually following his route.
Karen wanted to see the donkey again. She seemed very pleased to see us.
Especially as we had brought carrots.
Well maybe not that pleased.
I think she still prefers her pig friend.
