Hi! Do you have any tips on how to gain confidence on an instrument? Sounds like a silly question, but I've been playing piano for two years now and have reached grd. 9 RCM and if I play in front of anyone I shake all over. Any ideas?

We all have different ways of gaining confidence when it comes to music, but i’ll give you two of mine. 

1. Practice, practice, practice! The more you practice and spend time on your instrument then the more you’ll become acquainted to it and know where your strengths and weaknesses lie. 

2. Don’t be afraid to fail. It happens to the best and most professional of us. No one is perfect, nor will they ever be. So know that you WILL make mistakes sometimes, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. Just get back on that piano bench and keep trying. Maybe even laugh at some of your flubs instead of curling up into a ball of despair and deciding that your music career is over forever.

Do you guys know of a good way to clean a chin rest? Sadly, I get terrible acne as well as a bruise and if I could safely clean it, I would forever in your debt. Thanks!

It really depends on the material. You can also just use a cloth to cover the chin rest to deal with the acne problem. 

As for the bruise, that should be your mark of pride. Unless it's different from the normal violin hickey.
