Oops! I Arted – Final Fantasy XV Artist AU Headcanons
I really like writing self-indulgent things about artists. Because I really like art, I’m an artist myself, I’ve studied stuff too, and just lsjersjers. Art~ :D
So here! Have some artist headcanons, because, you know, ART!
Noctis Lucis Caelum:
He didn’t really want to pursue art at first, wanting to follow more after his father’s job as a businessman, but his calling came out when he first learned how to draw.
He started off somewhere in middle school just doing tiny doodles in his notebooks. But it wasn’t until Prompto found his sketchbook that the two started drawing more.
Noctis continued to practice and eventually focused on art throughout high school, having a natural knack for doing cartoons and illustrations.
Ignis, for Noctis’s birthday when he graduated high school, gifted Noctis a drawing tablet, and Noctis began to emphasize more as a digital media artist.
He eventually got really good at animation after self-teaching himself, coming up with small cartoons based on his dreams. The ideas soon developed into small films that got the attention of major studios.
Noctis works off and one for some important studios, but he mostly does stuff for himself – having his own small group of trusted people helping him produce and bring his ideas to life.
Prompto Argentum:
The king of photography and quite the popular rising artist at the art school he attended with Noctis, always having a knack for it since was a child.
He also does quite a bit of photorealistic drawings and paintings, liking the challenge to make images that look just like his photograph.
He’s considered an emerging artist among the art world, well-known for talking about themes of perception and what is real or not.
To showcase this, he puts his paintings and his drawings up next to his photographs, mixing them together in his shows and getting people to really look at his work.
He gets the dumbest grin on his face at the opening receptions when people go ‘Wow! This is an amazing photograph!’ to his paintings. And then vice versa to the other.
It’s even better when they realize that they were completely wrong and finally start reading the title cards and artist statements to figure it all out.
Ignis Scientia:
Before, he used to do mostly just modelling work to make it through schooling, but he eventually decided that perhaps he should be doing other things with his life.
And so, his passion for fashion came to be, and Ignis began to develop more on his design skills to become a fashion designer.
He enjoys designs that are practical and functioning for people of all social classes, but he isn’t above doing something super crazy with avante-garde fashions and sculptural garments.
He often collaborates with Prompto, hiring him to take photographs of his designs so long as Prompto was able to use them for his portfolio – and have creative freedom to pose the models.
Noctis unfortunately falls victim to Ignis’s methods of fashion madness, so he’s usually the model that Ignis words with to sew his fashions and put them on.
He’s become quite famous within the fashion world – now showing some of his designs in Milan after dreaming of it for years.
Gladiolus Amicitia:
He started as a writer, major and all, when he went through school for it. But he found himself in a major writer’s block that lead him to have a hard time doing… Well, anything.
It wasn’t until Ignis asked Gladio to accompany him to a ceramics class that Gladio really developed and interest for something new.
He now works in his own studio, working on some remarkably delicate ceramics pieces, while also slowly starting to learn how to do other sort of sculptural forms on a more industrial level.
Like, Prompto, he’s an emerging artist who is slowly making his career by working on a series people sculpted from various materials – abstract and realistic -- all in some rather scandalous poses.
In his work, he likes making commentary on what is masculine and what is feminine, particularly playing with it when a woman is muscular and masculine and a man in petite and feminine.
He also still does ceramic pieces, filling up the place he shares with the guys exclusively with hand-made ceramics. He sometimes even prints some of Noctis’s cartoons onto his ceramics too, just to make Noctis happy.
Ravus Nox Fleuret:
He was once a talented painting prodigy, one that could rival the masters in classical and neo-classical painting with his skill and precision with a brush.
However, after falling down a path of drug usage at a young and emerging time as an artist, an infection he got in his arm resulted in it having to be amputated to avoid further infection.
The injury caused him to take a long break from painting to go through rehabilitation and eventually beat his addiction before returning back to the world of art.
However, his injury left him unable to maintain the precise style he used to do. So to beat this, Ravus eventually began to dabble in abstraction expressionism and action painting.
It eventually resulted in his comeback exhibition that featured a whole new abstracted style that represented the ‘artist’s angst’ as well as the idea of duality and recovery.
He’s quite a fan of Noctis’s animations, secretly hoping that one day, he may be able to have a proper conversation with the artist – without something complicating their conversation.
Ardyn Izunia:
Ardyn’s been around in the art world for who knows how long. He’s stuck his hands in a variety of different styles and mediums because of it all.
However, he’s the most well-known for being a conceptual performance artist, sparking the intrigue and interest of his audience with his themes of discomfort and control.
He once had an exhibition where viewers had to listen to audio recordings about his works, where he recorded his voice talking about some very explicit details about his content.
Needless to say, it was extremely controversial with the amount of sheer discomfort that the recording brought in terms of what he spoke of and how he said it all.
But despite the controversy surrounding Ardyn’s work, he’s extremely well-received in his work and showcased in both the Niflheim museums and the Lucian museums.
He likes to think of himself as a hot-shot artist, so his ego is very big. But he does find himself to be a bit envious of emerging artists, since he sometimes feels like his art will be forgotten one day.
