Transcript for Tutorial of Shoka La Kipito
Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening, wherever you are listening.
I am Richard Murray, and the following is my video tutorial for the right-handed regular version of my fantasy weapon, the Shoka La Kipito. I will depict six angles from the SHoka being held in a right hand.
The video can be paused or expanded and it comes with a transcript that provides all pertinent links.
The following is a more precise depiction of the Shoka than in the main body of the tutorial.
The Shoka I designed to be a weapon similar to a war hammer with a handle of around three feet, plus a spear protruding from the head like a halberd. On either side of the head is a fist, not a spike or hammerhead. One fist holds a knuckle, similar to a brass knuckle. The reason being the key to a war hammer is the ability to cause damage on impact. The war hammer isn't a slicing weapon. It is meant to break things, lethally. A knuckle serves a purpose to the hand. The role is to make the impact harder or more focused from the hand. In this way, the knuckle provides multiple smaller areas of impact for one fist. The other fist holds a chakram. But the chakram's role is not to be thrown from the fist. It has two roles: first is a cutting potential. Like the ancient Khopesh of Kemet, commonly called Egypt. The chakram element in the Shoka has as much a hammer role as a cutting role. But the key variance is the Shoka chakram's role as a circular device to produce magical bubbles. The bubble fluid is kept at the bottom of the Shoka. In the transcript will be links to videos to give more guidance to the operation of the fantasy weapon.
The first angle is the right-handed Shoka La Kipito being held with the back of the hand visible.
The first step is to start with two parallel lines. The second step is to make cross sectional lines. One half the distance. One above the halfway at a quarter. Then a line an eighth above or below the quarter line above the halfway line.
The third step is to make a triangle using the eighth line above the quarter line above the halfway line as a base. The key to your triangle, like the key to the parallel lines in the first step, is to remember the distances as you will need to remember these distances in the various angles, to make them look similar. The fourth step is to make two four sided polygons, a reflection of each other, each aside the space between the eighth line above the quarter line above the halfway line and the quarter line above the halfway line. For each polygon, the side not touching the base, the two parallel lines, should be longer and slightly curved than the side touching the base which should be shorter and straight. Either curve need to be convex. Convex meaning the middle point is farthest from the base.
The fifth step is to make the knuckle and chakram. The knuckle needs to be held by the left fist. The Chakram the right. For the left-handed Shoka La Kipito , it is reverse. Why is this the initial when you can spin the Shoka and apply either fist to an opponent. The most powerful weapon of the SHoka is the bubble making ability. The bubbles provide explosive power plus range plus a wide surface area of application unlike cuts from the chakram or the contact point of the knuckle. You start drawing the knuckle by making four circles, each an even diameter on the side of the polygon not facing the base. The Chakram is in the right fist and the diameter of the empty space in the chakram need to be able to fit the part of the right fist not connected to the base. In the sixth step, you polish the knuckle and chakram space. Take some time.
In the seventh step, you draw the magic bubble fluid container at the bottom of the base, which is also the handle. You draw the container by connecting a U, as in the letter U, to the bottom of the base. Remember, the key to any object being drawn in various angles is keeping the measurements the same or similar. yes, the body of images in this tutorial are done by hand, in pencil, absent measurements aids. But that is to also help all artists at all levels or styles or qualities feel comfortable applying themselves. The eight step is to polish the Shoka more. Erase loose lines, highlight other lines, and place a closed fist, backhand facing the artist near the bottom of the handle.... And there you have it.
The second angle is the right-handed SHoka La Kipito being held with the palm of the hand visible.
The most important part is to remember your measurements, even if just eye measurements for the first angle. The first step is to start with two parallel lines. The second step is to make cross sectional lines. One half the distance. One above the halfway at a quarter. Then a line an eighth above or below the quarter line above the halfway line. Yes, repetition.
The third step is to make a triangle using the eighth line above the quarter line above the halfway line as a base.
The knuckle needs to be held by the right fist. The Chakram the left. For the left-handed Shoka La Kipito , it is reverse. You start drawing the knuckle by making four circles, each an even diameter on the side of the polygon not facing the base. For the fingers of the fist draw four lines one from each circle. The second from the top is the longest. The Chakram is in the left fist and the diameter of the empty space in the chakram need to be able to fit the part of the left fist not connected to the base. In the sixth step, you polish the knuckle and chakram space. Take some time.
In the seventh step, you draw the magic bubble fluid container at the bottom of the base, which is also the handle. You draw the container by connecting a U, as in the letter U, to the bottom of the base. The eight step is to polish the Shoka more. Erase loose lines, highlight other lines, and place a closed fist, fingers plus palm facing the artist near the bottom of the handle.... Now you have two angles.
The third and fourth angle, the edge of the chakram or the flat of the knuckles facing the artist require less steps. But, still remember the dimensions you set up originally.
The first step is two parallel lines. Make them as you did for angle one or two. The second step is the same set of four lines. One half, one quarter above the half, and two eighths either side of the quarter.
The third step is making the spear atop the Shoka. Notice to use the prior two angles to refer to sizes. The fourth step require something not talked about before in this tutorial. From the base of the spear to the bottom eighth line, make four rectangles in a column, this will be the knuckle main contacting surface.
The fifth step is to place the magic liquid at the base of the weapons. The sixth step is to place a a black circular space at right above the bottom of the handle, representing the hand that is holding the Shoka will be beyond the wrist in this angle. And, sharpen the image. You place little triangles at either side of each element in the column. In defense it is not needed.
For the fourth angle, the first step is making the two lines. Again, a tutorial isn't merely about how to draw but to aid an artist in developing their ability to draw a thing repetitively to get a better grasp of creating it. The second step is the four lines: one at the half, one a quarter of the way above the half, two eights on either side of the quarter.
The third step is new. Make two parallel lines in between the two parallel lines for the base. The top of the new pair of lines needs to be a little above the northern eighth line, and the bottom a little below the southern eighth line. The fourth step is to make the knuckles and finger areas of the fist holding the chakram. To either make a curved line, convex. The next is the fingers that will face the artist at this angle. You can place a column of four with a a small circle above the column while aside the base to the right, representing the thumb. Now you have covered all but two angles on the right-handed SHoka La Kipito and that is above and below.
For the angle above the shoka, the first step is to draw one circle, remember the quality of the prior base's, the two parallel lines you began with. The second step is to draw two circles to the left and four circles to the right. These will be the knuckle and chakram. The third step is to draw the fist. The fist to the left will hold the knuckles, make a rectangle for the knuckle and place the first around it. You draw the fist by drawing a u from the rectangle for the knuckle and then a rectangle connecting the letter U to the base.
For the fifth step, you make the chakram by making two parallel lines in the four-circle space and taper it with a small triangular point. Then draw a line from the triangular tip in between the chakram lines to the base. The fist that holds the chakram is two c's connecting the base to either side of the chakram. For the sixth step, you place a circle around the base but don't color through the knuckles or fists. Then you place a small rectangle to the left, remembering not to color over the knuckle. This is the right hand holding the shoka. And, you polish the image, placing a dot in the center of the circle made in the first step... The last angle is from below. The first step is the same way as from above, with a circle. Keep the circle like the first step in the angle above.
For the second step, draw two circles to the left and three circles to the right. For the third step. place a circle around the center circle covering the first circle to the left or right, this is the fingers. Then make a small rectangle to the left of the circle you just made. This is the wrist. The fourth step is two lines in the remaining circle space, tapered to a point and with a line centrally, making the chakram. Then polish and polish.
