Lets get TWISTED with my latest and maybe or maybe not greatest media thread entry twisted the gameshow for the 3do, so twisted is a party board game thing where your goal is to guide your wacky character up a 100 tile spiral and win the gameshow and on the way play minigames and try to avoid the wheel of torture and the dreaded bozo square. The minigames in the game are almost all super easy except this weird face matching one and the trivia since it's 1990's trivia which for stuff like pop culture makes it really hard.
Oh also one final thing my discord about me is a thing from the credits of this game and i just think that's funny
Anyways my final rating is...
Maybe - I mean this game was a ton of fun just the only issue is actually finding a way to play it, i have no idea how 3do emulation works and actually getting one like david and i have is way easier said than done, much less getting a working 3do so uh if you can play this game try it it's a fun surreal experience
Ok so before i get started i just want to say that i'm gonna be doing recommendations vs giving things an x/10 score like on my twitter media thread since the scores i gave were honestly arbitrary and a recommendation would give a much more clear view on how i feel about a game. Down below are the categories this thread will be using
Don't recommend/Don't play it (Whichever one my brain remembers in this category at the time of writing) - I personally think no one should be subjected to playing this game and i would highly recommend not engaging with it at all costs like not even as a joke
Play at your own risk - I personally wouldn't seriously recommend this game to someone but if you want to give it a try go for it it could be really funny who knows
Maybe - This one will mainly be used for if i recommend the game but i think it's definitely not for everyone whether it be for difficulty or for potentially triggers in the game or even just some really weird shit
Recommend - I recommend this game wholeheartedly and would gladly suggest it to pretty much anyone
MUST PLAY - PLAY THIS GAME IMMEDAITELY RIGHT NOW
Oh and one final thing i'll be using the tag #beeb's media thread for this whole thread idk if you can mute tags or anything but if you can you can use it to mute this whole thread
So i guess without further ado i'll be starting my media thread here with danganronpa trigger happy havoc, So the first danganronpa game sure is an experience that's for sure and my opinion on the series has changed a LOT since i first played through the series and wrote my original media thread posts so i guess i'll just say this now. I don't like danganronpa as much as i did back then since my recency bias for the series went away ages ago and i've had plenty of time to look over the series retrospectively but the first game still has some pretty fun stuff. The whole mystery of why they're all in hope's peak i'd still say is pretty cool and hope's peak itself is a fantastic killing game setting and gives off a perfect atmosphere for the whole thing. The characters in one are kind of a mixed bag, on one hand you have characters who i think are genuinely pretty solid like sakura (She's probably my favorite character from 1 it's either her chihiro or mondo and maybe hina) and on the other you have whatever the fuck toko (in this game at least UDG helps her out a fair amount) and hifumi are where they honestly really suck just kind of being really annoying/weird most of the time. The chapters in this game are also mostly ok aside from like chapter 3 which is probably the game's lowest point trialwise and chapter 2 for how it handles chihiro (I refuse to get into any chihiro related drama so i won't go really in depth on that here) and just that really chapter 2 is mostly ok otherwise. Chapter 4 was especially nice and is my personal pick for my favorite chapter in the game and chapter 1 while it starts out slow imo has one of the absolute best executions in the trilogy. Thankfully this game also sticks the landing fairly well with its ending and it didn't completely fall flat on its face and seriously fuck up the rest of the game by ending on a sour note (Don't worry danganronpa 2 you're next)
Personally i'd give danganronpa trigger happy havoc a...
Maybe - While danganronpa's concept of the killing game is something i unironically think is one of my favorite mechanisms for telling a story with how much cool character shit it can cause the execution the games do with the concept can be uh, less than stellar at times. Also aside from the obvious (violence, blood, and a whole lot of murder) stuff that would lead to me seriously consider giving a game a maybe. The game (and the series in general tbh) has some really weird shit in them like both toko and hifumi are really big offenders in this game and i don't even want to get into the chihiro discourse not to mention the gross shower peeping bonus scene in chapter 3 although that one is completely missable (thankfully) if you didn't get a certain item from the monokuma machine but still regardless all of that is enough for me to give this game a maybe, if you think you can handle the blood, gore, everything else and more in danganronpa i'd honestly say it would be worth picking up and trying the series out.
So i'd like to start this media thread entry with a little story, way back when i was like 6 years old or so i have a second quest save file that i had either gotten to or beat level 7 on and before i could beat the game my mom turned off the console incorrectly without holding down the reset button and deleted my save data. I was absolutely devastated to say the least and i had never actually beat the second quest since that day... Until now.
Zelda 1's second quest is insanely fucked up, like seriously who thought this was ok for some of the dungeon overworld placements and layouts, like i genuinely have no idea how you're supposed to find some of this stuff without a map (which thankfully i used it's not like first quest where i have everything memorized) like for example they have shit like walls you have to just arbitrarily know that you have to walk through and also stairways that are one way and will just take you back to the start of the dungeon or one way doors that are just walls on the other side and some of those secret walls are one ways in themselves. But aside from all of that i still had a lot of fun with this game, since i'm a massive NES zelda apologist and i beat it in a few hours following a map. And not to mention finally avenging 6 year old me's lost save file felt incredible.
So my thoughts on if you should do the second quest of zelda 1 are that you should...
Play at your own risk - As much as i am a diehard fan for zelda 1 and 2 i can't even really give the second quest a maybe in good conscience. It's essentially all the problems zelda 1 already has except cranked up to 11, like seriously some of the shit in second quest i have literally zero idea how anyone is supposed to find it without looking it up, stuff like knowing to blow up a random wall that you need the stepladder to even interact with to find level 8 or playing the recorder on completely random screens with absolutely no tell for some heart containers and level 6 just some of the most awful dungeon design i've ever seen with tons of absolutely awful asshole traps in some of the later dungeons. So yeah ultimately i'd say only play the second quest if you're sure you know what you're getting into, just don't touch it otherwise
It's been a long time coming but finally i can say that i've finished all 6 mainline ace attorney games, that just leaves the two investigations games and i'll have officially played every single ace attorney (no i'm not counting the layton crossover) until they FINALLY do ace attorney 7.
So i might as well just cut to the chase, i honestly really REALLY like spirit of justice, this game goes hard as fuck and i will not hear otherwise, unless you're talking about case 4 which is just aggressively ok, the first half of case 5, which is really let down by its trial, and the DLC case which was mid as fuck but aside from that this game's highlights were really REALLY good, in fact i think the last half of case 5 (I honestly like to split case 5 into case 5-1 and case 5-2 due to how absurdly long the case is and the fact that they could of easily just made them two separate cases but i digress) is one of the best cases in the ace attorney series and the big twist of the case genuinely caught me off guard and i fucking LOVED it.
So, anyways now that i've reached the last checkpoint before the final goal in my ace attorney journey i think i can finally give this game a rating of...
Recommend - I think this game's mysteries are absolutely fantastic and for the most part really fun to unravel, honestly my one reservation with this game is the fact that there's a lot of required reading to go through before you can actually play this game, as odds are you'll wanna play at the bare minimum ace attorneys 1-5 first
The best way i can describe Tyrion Cuthbert Attorney Of The Arcane is ace attorney if you set it in a fairly conventional D&D world with magic and all that and honestly it goes hard as hell i really like this game. The concept is really cool and i think the use of magic and such for the various murders (lets be real here it's a love letter to the ace attorney series it's gonna have murders) is honestly super clever at points. The story is also pretty nice honestly, although it absolutely cranks it up to 11 starting from case 5 i still think it's really cool regardless. I'm really fond of the main cast this game brings to the table, and even beyond that there's a lot of likable/memorable characters here.
Oh actually one thing i wanted to bring up is the fact that game lacks a penalty system aside from during arguments, and even if you lose i'm pretty sure it ultimately doesn't really matter much (except for like one example late in the game) and i gotta admit it did feel kinda weird, although i wouldn't necessarily say it's a super bad thing just a decision the devs made while making it that confuses me a little bit.
Anyways, after reviewing the evidence the only verdict i can come to for tyrion is...
Recommend - Ultimately i think the big deciding factor on if you should play tyrion is if you love ace attorney since the game is ultimately very similar to ace attorney just with a cool D&D fantasy twist to it
So i think i may be the first person in like the last 3000 years to actually not only play mario party E but also play it with the e reader and all that and i have to say it's simple but honestly a pretty decent little game. You can probably get a few good games out of it with friends just for the sheer novelty of it.
My thoughts on it are that i...
Recommend - If you for some insane reason can actually scrounge up everything to play this i'd say it's honestly worth giving a try at least once as it is a fun novelty. Try playing with moare than 2 players as it'll probably be more fun that way
Final fantasy 4 is game i've had a long and storied history with, and i've finally done my 7 year old self justice and finally beat the final boss, and more importantly played through the whole game! I honestly had a blast from start to finish and i'm kicking myself for not picking up and trying to play more final fantasy games eons ago back when i had that special interest in their lore in middle school but yeah better late than never i suppose.
I'd give this game a rating of...
Recommend - This was the first game to introduce the ATB system for handling turns and i think it's probably worth experiencing for that alone, the plot, while simple is honestly a really cool story of sacrifice and redemption and very fun to go through, the characters are pretty great too. Although if you do give this game a try (which again i do actively recommend you do) just be warned rare drops in this game are genuinely awful to farm for as all the chance of a drop occurring at all is 1/20 and then the very rare drops (which btw 5 very rare drops are tied to achievements, i grinded them out, and yes i am insane) are a 1/64 chance of happening, so you can end up grinding for hours on end for the drops with no luck. But yeah at the end of the day just give the game a playthrough you won't regret it
In the spirit of halloween i've returned from the dead with the first new post for my media thread in a good long while, and it's a fitting game for the season too.
FAITH The Unholy Trinity is probably one of the single most brilliant horror games i've ever seen. Pretty much everything about this game is masterfully crafted, from the absolutely bone chilling sound design to the incredible usage of rotoscoping to make exceedingly unnerving cutscenes. And probably one of the most notable aspects of it, the fact that it uses fucking ancient obsolete voice synthesizers for all of its voicing, which makes dialogue just that much more unsettling. The fact that this game is as genuinely unnerving as it is with its graphics and all that is a true feat that i find exceedingly impressive. Areas like the apartment complex in chapter 3 especially are downright terrifying and i'd be lying if i said i wasn't shaken too my core the whole time going through there.
FAITH's story is honestly really good as well, it's intriguing and it pulls you right in and it's well worth it to make your way through it, and more importantly it's well worth it for you to go out of your way to get the best endings, even if doing that makes chapter 3 a lot harder.
So, i suppose i might as well bring back the old rating system as i actually feel really compelled to give one here, and my rating for FAITH is...
PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK - Horror games really are not for everyone, i'm pretty sure FAITH's religious themes could also really be a sticking point for some people but like if you think you can handle it please PLEASE play this game, i promise you if you're looking for a good horror game to play that's not too particularly long pick up FAITH, you will not be dissapointed.
And of course don't forget, Gary loves you.
