I really don't understand all the praise this game got when it came out back in the day, was everyone just desperate for a metroid?

i can kinda understand this getting a bunch of buzz back in 2009 when there was no ori and the blind forest, guacamelee, axiom verge, etc., but like whoof. it’s rough.

It didn’t seam to have much in the way of style or substance, when I played the “remastered” version available on the epic client for free
yeah that’s how i started playing it, i was like. “hey. it’s a metroidvania. it’s free. i heard good buzz about it years and years ago.”
but
it’s kind of bland, and the controls are clunky, and so far the upgrades i have feel like this really faceless Generic Military Shooter stuff (pistol! grenade! SMG!)

Hard Game Dark Souls 3 has 5 respecs littered around, which would be nice, If I wasn’t getting frame rate drops almost exclusively on level up/shop windows.

Divinity seams very old crpg, in some ways.
yup. i think that’s the pitch, really, is like. a lot of the design of 90s CRPGs but with shiny graphics and maybe some specific rough edges sanded off. which is neat enough, i spose. but then sometimes it’s frustrating.
