The Levels team describes how continuous glucose monitoring affects behavior change.
There are a lot of reasons why it is so hard to choose healthy behaviors, many of which are entrenched into our society. These range from cultural norms regarding nutrition and “comfort food,” relentless food marketing and advertising, the addictive nature of ultra-processed food, culturally-reinforced taste preferences, complex psychological and social dynamics around food, limited access to healthy foods for many individuals, public policy that financially bolsters production and purchasing of disease-promoting foods, and a culture that promotes sedentary behavior. What’s more, we have a healthcare and medical education system that still largely emphasizes reactionary sick-care over prevention and disease reversal...
A small parade of analysts stepped out last week with projections that global oil demand and carbon dioxide emissions likely peaked last year, with consumers’ need for refined oil products hitting a turning point and more big fossil companies expected to declare “impairments” in their production assets in the not-too-distant future.
The follow-ups come after colossal fossils BP and Shell downgraded the value of their combined assets by as much as US$39.5 billion over the last couple of weeks.
“While we expect oil demand to recover next year, we think that it’s likely that it will never reach the levels seen in 2019,” Sverre Alvik, head of DNV GL’s Energy Transition Outlook, told Reuters. While the reductions would not be enough to bring fossil emissions in line with the goals in the 2015 Paris Agreement, “COVID-19 has shown that behavioural changes are indeed possible, and we can use this opportunity to make a change which is good for climate,” he added.
Even carrying out some of these measures some of the time could make a huge difference should lots of people have a go
As disasters related to climate change, such as the wildfires wreaking havoc in Australia, give us a nasty taster of what is in store as the planet continues to warm, many people are wondering what they can do to improve the environment and limit greenhouse gas emissions.
Here we recommend 50 things you could try, from easy fixes such as changing your light bulbs, to the more significant, such as choosing to not have children.
Many of the measures will not be for everybody, as there is often a limit to what your circumstances will allow. Nor will people necessarily want to rule out some things – such as meat – entirely.
However, even carrying out some of these measures some of the time could make a huge difference should lots of people have a go.
