Their house was only so big, so it couldn’t be far. Her head felt bare, naked with out the worn knitted wool adorning it. Ears cold and exposed even though it was the middle of summer. Hair wild and untamed without it confines to contain it.
She had flipped the house upside down looking for her beloved. She hadn’t even realized it was missing until she had woken up the following morning. Not remembering taking it off, she never did. It was like it was glued to her head sometimes, she hardly removed it unless it needed to be washed.
She checked the laundry room. It was the first place on her list, right behind her own bedroom. Maybe her dad came in her room during the night and took it to be washed, it would be the first time. But both the washing machine and dryer were free of anything clothing. She even checked the little lint trap, cause you never know.
The living room was next; and it faced her full wrath as she tore pillows and cushions from the couch and chairs. She looked under the couch and behind the tv and nothing. She had begun her search in the dining room when her dad gave her a brief scolding for leaving the living room a mess and she had to go back. This allowed her to double check under the pillows and cushions that now rested on the floor. Lifting them up quickly like the garment she was looking for would bolt as soon as she saw it.
Even with her double checking, the living room didn’t have it, nor did the dining room or kitchen, or garage, or the bathroom, or her dad’s room, and she even doubled back to check just in case she missed something, nope she hadn’t. Even the front and back yard was checked and nothing turned up.
It wasn’t until after two hours of searching; when she had flopped down onto the couch next to her dad ready to cry, there was a knock on the door. There was a clear shot of the front door from the living room where they sat but she wasn’t looking, her face was buried her her dad’s chest as she sniffled holding back tears.
She hadn’t been listening until she heard his voice, his soft sweet voice. “Hi Mr. Hunt I’m here to return Ahna’s hat”
Looking up sure enough there stood her boyfriend, Jasper and on his head was her beloved fox hat.
“Jasbunny! You found it!” Within seconds she was off the couch and had her arms wrapped around his smaller form rocking him back and forth vigorously.
“You left it over at my house yesterday.” He spoke into her shoulder wrapping his arms loosely around her waist.
“Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, my little Jasbunny!” She picked him up and spun him around before taking the hat from his head and placing it onto her own head and darting off somewhere into the house. Her screams of joy echoing after her.
