Amphibian Man: movie rec

If anybody wants to watch a nice Russian movie, here’s an old Soviet sci-fi romance one with English subtitles:

Amphibian Man (1961) - an almost fairy-tale like science fiction film based on A. Belyaev’s novel. The actors have unforgettable eyes!! :) It used to be extremely popular back in the day, and it’s still a childhood favorite of many.

Plot: The story is set in a seaside port in Argentina (but filmed in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR), largely among a community of pearl fishers. The protagonist is the adopted son of a doctor/scientist who was sometime in the past forced to save the boy's life by implanting him with shark gills. Thus he is able to live under water, but must keep his secret from the world. And once he falls in love.....

I love it T_T <3 Cool fact from Wiki: Hollywood filmmaker Quentin Tarantino cited Amphibian Man as one of his favourite Russian films, stating that he grew up watching an English dubbed version often shown on American television in the 1970s.

The Stenberg Brothers' riveting Constructivist photomontage illustrates "Turbine No. 3," a film within the classic Soviet trope of industrial drama. Inspired by the Socialist Realist novel Cement by Fyodor Gladkov (see the Sternberg Bros.' "Thirty Days", No. 85), directors Belyaev and Moskvin valorize Soviet builders in a crisis. They've got to save an uncompleted hydroelectric station from a glacier. Just when the crisis appears to be over, an engineer, bedridden in hospital, is studying the plant's blueprints and finds a catastrophic fault in Turbine No. 3. He leaps from his sickbed and rushes to the industrial site to prevent a terrible tragedy. Inset photos include shots of workers donning protective gear, the long march out to the site, and a sailor kissing his beloved goodbye.
