Yesterday’s scuffle. Giants @ Reds 4/16/26
honestly watching the benches clear between pirates and mets is like watching a rat and a seagull duke it out over a flamin hot cheeto someone dropped at a bus stop
Also I know we're all "uwu fighty bois" and baseball brawls are fun but pls let's not normalize trying to put a 54-year-old coach in a headlock, bc that part isn't cool and someone Tom Prince's age is significantly more likely to get hurt
This has been a PSA. pls go back to your memes 👌
Imagine you're in the bullpen when the benches clear and you're like "ughhhh do I have to go all the way to the infield just bc these guys are havin a spat" and then some motherfucker starts RUNNING so now everyone in both bullpens has to jog over or you'll all look stupid
I neither like nor support “hard-nosed, old-school baseball,” but the tea is scalding. That said, thanks, I hate it.
Musgrove? Pirates? Don’t make a habit of this bullshit. We’re better than that.
Anon, meet anon, lol. I’m gonna address both of these at once since they’re closely related but probably not from the same person. Yinz don’t mind, right? Sike! u don’t have a choice
So, best as I can figure, Harper can be kind of an asshole, as evidenced by your mutual distaste for him. That quote from the second anon is a little off the mark; it would be more accurate to say that Harper stressed the value of actual competition (“no participation trophies”) to a group of ten-year-old-ish kids, as opposed telling “tots” that they “suck.”
Regardless, I’m inclined to disagree with him on that as well, Anon. But a bad opinion on participation trophies does not a fastball target make. (Two other things worth nothing: children themselves know that participation trophies are bullshit; also, not every former MVP would make time to meet up with little leaguers, even if the messaging is off.)
Besides, it’s questionable practice to “retaliate” in general, let alone three years after a perceived offense. He didn’t deserve that shit, point blank. I appreciate First Anon for having a level head about the matter, even as a Harper Hater™️.
See, Harper is worlds ahead of other “hated” players. To my knowledge, he’s never said anything racist or homophobic, never been accused of steroid use, never publicly insulted a rival player or a 7th grader, for that matter.
So no, he’s not a “terrible person” - you just don’t like him. And here’s the thing: you don’t have to. Replace “terrible” with “ascorbic” or “obnoxious,” and you’ve hit on the actual reason that so many people dislike him. He’s got moxie. He’s good and he knows it. And unless you’re a Nats fan, you’ve almost certainly been personally victimized by his INCREDIBLE bat at some point.
The solution to Harper’s swagger, dear Anon, is not for a sour pitcher to assault him with maliciously-placed fastballs. No, the comeuppance you seem to feel he deserves will only come about when your pitchers get good. Until then, you’re stuck with him: a cocky, trash-talking, home-run-smashing scion of raw talent under a head of perfect hair. Might as well enjoy the show. 😈
