She approaches, trepidation in each step she takes. The events of the last few weeks weighed on her shoulders in a way she’d never experienced before -- LOSS . . . not a new concept to her, but one she’d never truly grasped until it found itself screaming in her face, making her unable to turn away. While, yes, she was his girlfriend -- she’d only known Thomas for a short amount of time. Everyone was busy asking her how she was coping -- if she was okay -- but the blonde haired boy with the paint splattered jeans who sat, hunched over a book in the library -- he was the one that she was most worried about. Thomas was his roommate -- his best friend. So -- after days of keeping to herself, here she is -- about to put a brave foot forward -- if not for herself, but for Josh Hollis. He deserved to know someone was thinking about him in this terrible, terrible time. Sliding into the seat across from him, she clears her throat, an awkward way to pull his focus from the pages before him to her. Letting out a breath she wasn’t fully aware that she was even holding in, she takes a moment before speaking. “Hey -- I’m sorry . . .” Sorry about what -- she didn’t know -- but it’s the right thing to say -- no ?? “I just -- I thought I’d come & check in. See how you were doing. I -- I needed to get out of my dorm. Figured I’d bring you these.” With that, she slides some vending machine candy ( not exactly the most thrilling gift -- but from what she had noticed, the boy loved his sugar ).
