Muppet Fan Art by Andrew Colaprete
oh gawd today was such a day that needs to be hashed out but i don't wanna. and my hands are so dry and cracked they're bleeding: the hard core life of a canadian maker, you guys. on a related note: bert's bees is my home boy.
The Battle Between: Burt's Bees and EOS Lip Balms
Burt's Bees
PROS: Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Tube is an amazing product with a national rating of 5 stars. It's made of all natural products such as beeswax (a natural skin conditioner), coconut oil, sunflower seeds, rosemary extract, and soybean oil. All these combinations create a balm that has a great, tingly flavor and feel on your lips. Some customers also report that the balm keeps cold sores at bay (something some of us know all too well!).
CONS: Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of Burt’s Bees' amazing product is its lack of SPF to protect your lips. Also, the price can be a burden. One tube can cost anywhere from $3-5!!! CRAZY!! As for me, being a college student, I don’t want to spend that much money on lip balm that I will probably lose in two weeks. I'd rather buy some Ramen or cereal, personally! :P
EOS
PROS: EOS Lip Balm Spheres, also known as eggs, not only come in an amazingly cute packaging, but they also have some amazing flavors! EOS has currently created seven bold flavors to go wild for, and some even have an SPF 15 to protect your lips from the harsh sun. The unique design of the EOS spheres also provide buyers with nearly 3 times more balm than a traditional tube. EOS also reports using 95% organic and 100% all natural ingredients (similar to those in Burt’s Bees).
CONS: EOS has a strangely low national rating of 3.5 stars. These spheres sell at $2.99; however, you get so much more than in a normal tube of balm. However, many users have reported that EOS does not work at all and that the balm remains on your lips without moisturizing them.
My Review
After using both products for an extended period of time, I have determined that EOS is a much better product. Not only do I absolutely LOVE those bold flavors, but I don’t have to buy another sphere for at least a month! I would recommend it to people who LIKE moisture and LOVE flavors. EOS is not a healing balm; unlike Burt’s Bees, it's a moisturizer. If your lips are extremely chapped, it will not heal them, however if you use EOS regularly to prevent chapped lips, it is perfect. I would not recommend EOS for people who have chronic dry lips.
