The Sapphire Samurai (now semi-officially known as The Ronin) was a tough nut to crack. However, for the ever so persistent hero, Byobi (Nari), it was rather easy.

After a couple years of constant pestering and following the Vigilante around like a duckling, The Ronin seemed to slowly warm up to the idea of venting on top of rooftops every morning just before sunrise. It actually became a little ritual of theirs, at first with no strings attached. But after a while, it became sort of an outlet for Ronin once things became calm. easy.

Until Byobi got a call one day from a rather fatigued Ronin, asking for help for the first time ever. There, Byobi found an unmasked Ronin reluctantly bleeding out around an entourage of dead henchmen, all with illegal OP hero tech in their hands. Without asking much questions, Byobi helped The Ronin to safety, had her dad stitch her up, and stayed by her side as she recovered. Once she did, she too revealed her identity to Ronin, much to her dismay.

yet now, after particularly hard days, Mizu likes to stop by Nari's place. definitely NOT to cuddle and feel better in Nari's arms.....never.....ONLY to debrief of course. nothing more.

TLDR: The Ronin and Byobi have a slowburn situationship because The Ronin has issues, but it's okay be so does Byobi. Now Mizu drops by her house every now and then to debrief, relax, use her hot water, and cuddle....but like not in a gay way.

Headcanon of the evening: my current favorite BES characters' sense of style in a modern AU

Abijah: To quote Mizu from one of my fics, he dresses like a parody of a rich man. Mixes slacks with button-up shirts (which are always garishly colored and patterned, with rolled-up sleeves, showing off far too much of his chest). Wears thick, oversized coats when it's cold out. Wears golden rings on his fingers and in his ears, and has about a half-dozen half-healed piercings. Wears his dog tags about 30% of the time, but will absolutely try and bullshit you if you ask him about his military career.

Heiji: A consummate professional. Slicked back hair, a monochrome three piece suit - his golden cufflinks and some tiny golden stud earrings is all the jewelry he'll allow himself to wear. Would 100% wear dresses from time to time if he allowed himself that sort of space.

Mizu: Messy, casual masc. The most formal they'll go is a freshly ironed white button-up and a pair of jeans - more common is a t-shirt or tank top and some sweatpants, maybe a hoodie when they can't be bothered to wear a binder. Gets new piercings on a very enthusiastic and almost random basis. Owns very few items that aren't monochrome.

Bonus: My BES OCs

Haruka: Takes advantage of their status as a sugar baby any time they can, especially when it comes to outfits. High heels, silky, skin-tight dresses of various lengths, fur-lined coats, so much jewelry (especially ones made of garnets and pearls). Loves wearing more masc outfits, but treats it as a performance, and only ever goes masc when they're sure their audience will enjoy it.

Akari: She'll wear anything she's given, but she's a cottagecore girl at heart. She was born for embroideries, flowy white skirts, cute knitted cardigans, and flowers woven into her hair.

Lowkey they don't get along on a daily basis, but they're ride or die for the other when it counts because months of travelling together and the fact that they're two outcasts with no real friends made them latch onto eachother emotionally. Lowkey.

Once a month they let their guards down and end up sharing crazy facts about themselves to see if they can outfreak the other but the only thing they accomplished was this strange sense of mutual pity and understanding. They don't know it's friendship.

One time i described Saki to oomf as 'the heiji shindo to Mizu's Fowler' and yeah i believe that was the general idea when creating her

Advantageous, has a very fucked up moral code, and is overall kind of terrible. I love Saki. What she lacks in physical prowess she makes up for in social sense, persuasion, and most importantly bonafide intel

She was conceived as the ultimate mizu foil so while mizu is very much a sensitive human pretending to be an uncaring demon, saki is The Demon pretending to be a sensitive human

Born (not really) and bred (definitely) to be a spy and assasin, she doesn't really care about anything other than her mission, herself, and by extension her most useful ally.

Please don't tell her her beloved father sent her on a suicide mission to get rid of her bastard ass

Also she is european, juuust racially ambiguous (read: her mother was a filipina in Spain, not that she remembers it) enough to pass off as japanese with some bride makeup on. She pretends to be a miko most days, a kitsune when she's bored and wants to prey on some poor vulnerable person's fear of the unknown, which is exactly how she conned Mizu's backstory out of her.

I have entire one shots abt them so. Maybe i'll upload them somewhere and take them out of my friend's dms. The world deserves the toxic sakimizu lesbian situationship
