The best nonstick cookware set is necessary for any cook’s kitchen, from the most experienced to the most beginners. It’s almost difficult to make eggs without one, they make pan-searing fish a lot smoother, and they save pancakes from tearing apart in the pan.
Even the nonstick pans get a bad name, but the nonstick cookware is healthy as long as the parts made of Teflon are not overheated to temperatures above 500oF. They’ve come a long way since they first came out, and others are working much like stainless, with no staining and no rough washing. We checked all sorts of nonstick pans to decide the best ones on the market.
At the Home Design for Kitchen Appliances and Technology Lab, we had 165 eggs fried, 50 steaks fried, and more than 35 new cookware lines fried. We measured how uniformly the stews dispersed heat to the gas and electric ranges, how well the meat was browned, and how well the saucepans held a constant boil and avoided scorching sauce. We tested how well the nonstick surfaces released eggs and pancakes and how easy they were to clean. Finally, we tested how easy it was to use all cookware pieces, including whether the handles were hot to touch and whether each piece was oven-and/or dishwasher-safe.
