Regarding fanfiction and romantic fanfics in particular

I'm just gonna say this once and I don't care if I get hate or if someone wants to unfollow me for this. If that's how you feel, go ahead, but hear me out first. I hate how we've condoned toxic behaviours and attitudes in fanfiction just because "fanfics should have creative freedom". I absolutely support the representation of different forms of fanart and fanfiction. I love reading smutty fics and I love when they're kinky or whatever, but ONLY WHEN THEY'RE WELL DONE. And what does this mean? First, that the author WARNED about possible triggering subjects in the fic. If I don't wanna read about a baby being abused or a woman being raped you should at least warn it in the tags or author notes. Second, don't confuse kinks and sexual preferences with toxic behaviours. I'm so tired of reading bethyl fics where Daryl is jealous and possessive and he says things like "you're mine" and "I've never had something that was mine" when he talks about Beth. Wtf man? SHE'S NOT A PROPERTY. BEING POSSESSIVE AND JEALOUS IS NOT ROMANTIC, IT'S TOXIC And it makes me sick because there's a difference between reading a BDSM fic where Daryl does breathing and knives games with Beth and he gets aggresive or whatever but IT'S ALL CONSENSUAL AND THEY BOTH WANT IT AND THERE'S RECOVERY AND LOVE AFTER IT - and then there are fics where Daryl being jealous of every guy who looks at Beth is calificated of "romantic", and the difference between those two fics is that someone (90% it'll be a young girl) will read the second one and she won't be alarmed when her boyfriend controls her and tells her what to wear and who she should talk to, when he starts taking away her freedom and rights and makes her feel like she's nothing without him. It FUCKING MAKES ME SICK because we're perpetuating toxic relationships and women abuse under the pretext of "creative freedom". Because there are thousands of women who die every year, that are murdered by their partners, or raped, or molested, and they'll think that's how love works and that it's her fault. Am I the only one that is worried about this? Every time I read a Bethyl fanfiction I do it cautiously bc I know I'll come across some kind of abusive behaviour considered "sweet" or "romantic". Even in the show Daryl wasn't like that. Bethyl wasn't like that. So yeah, if you wanna unfollow me that's up to you. If you wanna talk, my ask box is open for everyone who wants to.

Guys I’m so sorry i’ve been so inactive both here and on AO3. I am so swamped right now. I’m hoping to get some chapters up soon of both Shotgun Wedding and Right Where You Left Me. My plan to update weekly has totally failed.

Neither of these fics are abandoned! I am still very much planning on finishing both of them. It will just take longer than anticipated.
