Today's vet exam included xrays that revealed fluid build up in Betsey's chest and abdomen, on top of an enlarged liver and an irregular heartbeat. She was having a hard time breathing due to all the pressure, and would only find relief if we were to drain the fluids, which was a very temporary solution. I decided that it was time to say goodbye. The vet gave us some quiet time together and as I gave her all the loves I could she put her little paw in my hand for some time. So this is me now. #BetseyMonkey had recently been diagnosed with kidney disease and was prescribed a new medication on top of the stuff she takes with her wet food for her tummy. Every night I mix her food and powder and hide a half of a teeny, tiny pill inside the food. Every night she eats around the pill and I'm stuck in the same dilemma where I now must give her the pill by hand. Every night I end up with deep claw punctures and a pissed off cat. To say that Betsey has always been my difficult girl would be an understatement, but holy shit, I don't know how much longer the two of us can tolerate this arrangement. My hands have multiple painful punctures at different levels of healing and I'm amazed there hasn't been any infections yet. I even tried wrapping the pill in a little salami tonight to no avail. Anyone have any other tricks out there? She's pretty damn hit or miss with treats, and once she's decided she's done eating wet food for the night, there's no changing her mind.
