Book 112 and 113 of 2021. Do you consider yourself a nosy Nancy? I do. I am always curious about how other people live and what they are upto. I am curious as can be. Is it my best quality? Perhaps not, but it's one I have made my peace with. I love reading about how people live and love and what their inner worlds are like. Especially those who live very different lives. Life on a commune/collective/cult will always have my attention, particularly one I have been to. Auroville seems like a very peaceful, sorted and egalitarian settlement, I've visited it twice and came back thinking it must be a good place to call home. And I am sure for many it's just that. Home. But chasing Utopia doesn't come easy and without hardships. This book #bettertohavegone shows us another, perhaps a more intimate side of this settlement...commune... community. I read this book in one day, very engrossed in this community and the people that came together and built this place from the ground up. And it didn't come easy. There was loss, disillusionment and a crisis of faith...and death and grief and blame. Interesting. Startling. Enlightening. Sad. But good. #TheSkylight by #louisecandlish was max nosy Nancy vibes. And something I can relate to a lot...well not all of it...not the murdery bits...but the whole low-key spying on my neighbours bit..that I can wrap my head around. I once stayed up till 3 AM eavesdropping on my neighbour fighting with her boyfriend on the phone. It was loud, angry and shamefully entertaining. (In my feeble defence, it was late, I was up studying and Neuro Psych was kicking my ass.) So a woman who watches her downstairs neighbours through the sunlight was so much fun to read about. A short read this one,I breezed through and thoroughly enjoyed, especially the twists and turns.
