Review: The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain
Once I decided to do Liptember, I knew it would be two things:
A great opportunity raise money for research and support for women’s mental health; and
The perfect excuse to buy the two lip products I’d been dreaming about. The Body Shop’s Lip & Cheek Stain in Red and Mac’s Ruby Woo.
Today I’m reviewing The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain in Red. A review of Ruby Woo is in the pipeline.
The Body Shop’s Lip & Cheek Stain usually retails for $28.95 but is currently on sale for $21.95. It’s not exactly supermarket cheap, but it is a lovely product with good staying power perfect for anyone who wants to wear a little colour without having to commit to the whole lipstick rigmarole.
The colour as it comes out of the tube is a bright, bright red. There is a slight shimmer (which in my view is completely unnecessary), but it’s very, very subtle and barely noticeable once it dries. Which is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
It does have a scent and when I lick my lips tastes like maybe it's supposed to have a flavour? It's certainly not overwhelming. I have sensitive skin and don't deal well with scented products generally, but this is okay.
As you can see, the colour is completely build-able, and just soaks into your lips without a glossy, creamy or matte finish.
There’s a pink version of the same product which I have tried previously but felt it didn’t give me the colour I was looking for, but would be nice for a lighter, less intense look.
Being someone who ordinarily avoids lipstick because of how high maintenance it is, I’ve been looking for a lip stain to give me a hint of colour when I’m wearing a full face of makeup, and this is definitely the best one I’ve tried to date. Basically when I’m wearing a lip stain, I want it to look like I’ve just finished eating strawberries or cherries or something else equally carefree and sweet, and I think I’ve achieved it with this.
Overall, although it’s a little pricey (though probably about average for Aussie products), I definitely recommend this for a low-maintenance, high-impact lip look.
I’m trying to raise $2,000 for research into women’s mental health by asking 200 of my followers on social media to donate just $10 to my Liptember campaign. If this is something you could help with, donations can be made here.
