FInally grabbed the sweet Intervision dvd of Canadian Television lost schlock BEYOND THE SEVENTH DOOR!
Intervision has been dropping some hot shit bad movie masterworks lately. Some real rare gems like Things, Phobe and Beyond the Seventh Door are all home made schlock from the northern land of Canada.
Beyond the Seventh Door is filmed in Toronto and basically only existed to play late night on channels like CITY TV late at night to fill in the legal requirement of Canadian content. Made in the late 80s filled with weird Toronto references but only staring 4 actors. 1 of them you only see from the back of their head and another actor plays a dead body (played by a local odd ball that used to run for mayor a lot). Basically the plot if SAW meets The Room. Imagine an actor that looks like a creeper cross between Richard Ramirez and Tommy Wiseau and acts as awkward as either could. In what is basically an almost smart episode of Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock presents is a story about a down on luck man and his ex girlfriend break into a castle to find a hidden treasure but get stuck in a game of dungeons and recorded voices. They must unlock each door before the end of a timer or die.. yes DIIIEE!!! Bwaahahahaha.. well yeah. So thats a taste of what the acting is like and that what you came for, the trying so hard dialogue, the overselling acting and soap opera style behaviour as well as the constant lighting of cigarettes. Some of the dungeons are actually kind of smart and made by slick set pieces, when the rest of the movie looks like parts of the littlest hobo tv series (Canadian will understand). Cheese with a heart of gold.
